We have friends sending their 17 yr old on a school trip to Florida , they don't want her to have large amounts of cash whilst travelling, other than traveler checks what other methods could she use, and could anybody suggest a link?

As above but we got better value through travelex. I only carried cash for tips :)

I use fairfx and that way the parents can control the money on it although they are not good for drawing out cash as you get charged for that.

You can update with more cash whenever you want as well

Another vote for the post office. I did use fairfx but they ripped me off and I lost over $400, their customer service when something goes wrong is non existent.

The post office have fab customer service, big bonus is you can just pop to your local post office with any questions or problems and get a face to face person :D

The money cards that are now available pretty much any where that you can change £'s to $'s

Here is a link to the post office one! They can add money to it whilst she is away as well!

When my then 15y old went to the US last year the only way I could get him a pre-loaded money card was to take out a Virgin money card as per the ones above in my name and then I could apply for a second card in my son's name. As per the PP you can load it from here in the UK and as it's coming out of your account you can see all the transactions online.

You have to be 18 to take out the Post Office travel card. My son went to Boston when he was 14 and he took Travellers Cheques.
