Money at DW Question

Hi,
Just wondering what everyone recommends as far as taking money to DW. Do you carry cash? Do you put everything on a CC until you get home - do most places in DW accept a CC?

I almost hate to think of carrying so much cash with me so I am looking for helpful hints. Thanks! :flower:

We have everything charged to our room, unless it's a sode or an ice cream or something. We usually take no more than $20 cash with us into the parks, the rest is locked up in the room safe (and there isn't much there either, a $20 for each day, lol). We both know what our daily spending limit is, according to how much we saved for the trip, and when that's used up, it's gone and we don't spend any more that day, unless we have extra leftover from earlier in the trip.

Have a great trip!

I room charge everything and carry a bout $20 cash.

If you prefer cash to credit, you can give cash to the CM at check in to apply to your room, (this way it doesn't get lost or stolen.) Than all your room charges go against your "credit". They will obviously give you back your money if you ever underspend :rotfl: :rotfl:

I seldom carry more than a few dollars anywhere. I charge everything. On vacation I usually carry a few hundred in travellers checks for emergencies, but I seldom cash any of them. Usually I bring them all home and redeposit the money or cash them at the credit union as I need a little cash.

I do bring along the checkbook, again for emergencies. It came in handy the time our van broke down more than 100 miles from home and we had to pay mileage for the overage on the tow that AAA wouldn't cover. They didn't take credit cards and we didn't have that much cash, but they did take a personal check.

Wow, that's a great idea, we usually just carry all cash and thought that the room card was just for charging against your cc.. Now I know I can put the cash towards the room card and not have to worry about it. Thanks!

We charge everything we possibly can (which is virtually everything). That way we run up the reward points on our card and just pay the bill in full when we get home. You do need to carry a little cash for popcorn, ice cream, etc. but everything else takes credit.

On our last trip we charged Everything to the room. Even if I was only getting a soda, I charged it to the room. The carts that sell icecream, popcorn etc take room key charges as payment. It is good to have a small amount of cash just in case because once a vendors cart had trouble with the machine and couldn't charge it to the room, I had to use cash.

We loved the room card because it saved us from having the mountain of change we always collect. The CM at the front desk was looking at our print out when we asked for it the day before checkout. He was laughing saying we made a lot of charges. When we explained the mountain of change thing he said the front desk would be happy to exchange our change for bills....who knew!

we are often not on property, so we can't bill it to our room. I bring our debit card and use it as a credit card. I know that way that everything is being paid for with "real" money. Sometimes I am not so good with saying"we'll pay it off when we get home" and I end up with a bill for a few months that I am paying interest on :scared1:

I do what Steve does...I have the money in my Ing account...no problem. I know my budget, and usually we are good about sticking to it. I also carry a GC from my bank...which I get free for charging to my debit card, which I use for emergencies or unexpected treats-last year it was $120 in 6 months.

That's exactly what we do, even at home.

We stopped to pick up bagels today on the way back from the gym. It was only $ 1.80 so I couldn't charge it and I mentioned to DH it was the first time in weeks I had paid cash for anything.

This is pretty much exactly what I do. Works like a charm. If you overspend what you put down, it is either charged to your credit card at the end of the stay or you would pay cash at Guest Services before you check out.

Why not? Did the place have a minimum charge rule? Check with your card issuer. I'm pretty sure Visa and MasterCard both say stores can't impose minimums. They may try, but if they do you should contest it.

We use our credit card for everything we can, and pay it off as soon as we get home. That way we earn some more frequent flier miles for the next trip! We've only needed cash rarely.

It would be so much easier just to charge to our room especially if they let us put cash towards our account. I just didn't like the thought of having to be responsible for so much cash while walking around the parks. Thanks everyone! :flower:

They had a sign stating $ 5.00 minimum but DH has fought this other times because they can't impose a minimum. We were hungry and too tired to argue with a teenager, it was just easier to pay cash.
