I was perplexed by line 2 - what made you guess ?

oh little things.... but mainly that your first posts were to the riddle... most people find the riddle after some time on the DIS so clearly you knew someone.... and by your location and join date Sparky was the obvious guess....

..but if I ever get my hands on a time machine, I think I'll swing by that town and one night when they're sleeping, right after they put up their fancy new town sign, I'll cut down their hollow of white hazel trees. And then just spray paint "You've been punked" on the side of the cave.

Yeah. Of all the things to do with a time machine that is your wish? OK. But while you have it could you pick us up some carrot cake from before they changed the recipe?

Cutting grass was a joy with my riding lawn mower

Or when I was old enough, I got to take out my own boat

And when grandpa fell asleep, I got to play with a marble, but I had to make sure to put the patch over his eye.
