Mommy's Magical Memories (Update 7.12.2012)

You may think I’m crazy for consulting a toddler on ADR choices, but that’s exactly what I did! LOL! I gave Luke a choice between Rainforest Café and T-Rex (both at DTD). This option will either be for our arrival day (since we can hop on the boat over to DTD) or on an off-property day so we don’t have to use a park ticket just to eat dinner! I showed him YouTube videos of both in addition to all the info from the actual Disney website. I also read him the menu choices.

In the end, he chose…

I had to share this picture because every time I show Luke the dinosaurs, he tells me that their heads are real but their bodies are not! It is the funniest thing!!! There is a reason behind this…since he was afraid of a lot of rides last year & we didn’t see any shows, I keep showing him videos of the rides & explaining that it isn’t real. He seems to be ok with this & insists he’s going to ride everything this trip! Somehow he translated it into the dinosaurs’ heads being real but the bodies are not!?

I think this next one is the most anticipated by ALL of us!!! We cannot wait to try this!!!

I have no idea what the menu will be like at Be Our Guest, but I’m sure it will be good! Rumor is right now they will have soft openings for this around Halloween!!!

These next three choices are still options and not definite – Mama Melrose’s at DHS, Tusker House at AK, and Sanaa at Kidani Village. We already have two ADR’s at DHS, the Play & Dine breakfast and the Sci Fi lunch so most likely Mama Melrose’s is going off our list. Tusker House is still a possibility but we’ll most likely do an early lunch instead of breakfast. Don’t forget they added the characters for lunch now as well as for breakfast! I’d love to try Sanaa but we already have 11 we want to try (or try again!) so this will most likely be a back-up if I can’t get one of our first choices. Personally I think I just want to explore Kidani Village because I am in love with AKL!!!

Entrée I may get at Sanaa

So for a wrap-up of our choices:

Repeats:
Garden Grill
Les Chefs de France
Coral Reef
Sci-Fi Dine In
Hollywood & Vine (Play & Dine breakfast)

New:
Ohana
Be Our Guest
T-Rex
Boatwright’s

Maybe:
Mama Melrose
Tusker House
Sanaa

I also have thought about doing a dinner show or maybe trying a 2-credit meal since we will be spending 2-3 days off property (we think…) We would most likely just eat off-property & end up having extra meal credits. We are also considering Kona Café, Whispering Canyon, Tony’s, Wolfgang Puck, and Raglan Road. I really need to figure out the schedule first before making final decisions. Hopefully this weekend or early next week I can check park hours!

My next update will have Quick Service & snack favorites as well as our schedule!!!

I'm having issues with where to eat. I have my ADR's made...but I want to go to so many places.

I have had to totally "let go" of the idea of making any really advanced ADR's for our fall trip. With a completely unsure group, we have no idea of who is going or how many, it just isn't feasible. I may make an ADR just for Jack and I... but we'll see.

Your ADR ideas look fantastic :thumbsup2

I desperately want to try 'Ohana. Unfortunately, even if I ever took a trip with Charles, it just wouldn't happen. He would only eat, like, the noodles, the salad, and the dumplings. He doesn't like steak. He doesn't like pork. He hates seafood and the idea of peel and eat shrimp freaks him out, so seeing it would just completely undo him.

Sanaa!!! Another place I desperately want to try!

That is SO cute that Luke tells you the dinosaurs' heads are real, but their bodies aren't! He's adorable. I really, really hope it works out to meet you when we go to Ohio, because I would love to meet Luke, too!

I haven't really checked with anyone else in my family about the possibility of Sanaa :confused3  I sort of just made an "executive decision" and decided we are doing it! My DH keeps saying that his favorite part of vacationing at Disney is trying new things...so new things we shall try!!! LOL!!! I'm debating between Sanaa and the buffet at Boma. I think Boma might be a better option because we can sample different things instead of just choosing one entree. I don't know...but I only have 10 days to decide!!! Yikes! ADR date is coming up too quickly!!

I think I've changed my ADR choices five thousand times already! Luke also keeps telling me he wants to eat "at the old castle" whenever I tell him we're eating at the Beast's Castle! It's too funny but I hope he isn't disappointed when we don't eat at CRT. I debated it for awhile but decided against it in the end. The experience would be amazing, but with the food so-so, I don't want to try it this trip. Maybe another time.

We have to figure something out for when you go to Ohio! I'm really hoping it works out too!!! :thumbsup2 Hopefully if we do meet, I'll get a chance to actually talk to you! Luke will probably talk on and on and on & I'll be lucky to get two words in! ;)

Totally understandable! It would be so hard to make ADR's without knowing how many people are eating with you! If there is a certain ADR you want, I'd just make it and add a couple people on just in case someone wants to go with you. It's always easier to subtract people than to add them! Maybe just one character meal for Jack?? Or maybe a late dinner at a resort?

Yep!!! EXACTLY!!!

I have changed ADR's sooooo many times! I honestly can't even remember right now which I posted on here! Knowing me, I've probably changed them already!

Boma is reallyyyyy good! There's definitely something for everyone there. Kailyn is not as crazy picky as she used to be, but she's definitely not adventurous when it comes to trying new foods. She managed to find things she liked and was able to fill up. The desserts are also amazing...my favorite is the bread pudding with vanilla sauce. :lovestruc

I keep meaning to text you and ask you what interstate you're near (if any) - when we go through New York, we usually take I-90 west as far as we possibly can. I know it's different going through PA, haha. I'm going to talk to my dad soon and see if we can alter it. I'm sure it won't be an issue. And I hope we can talk, too! :rotfl: I'd love to talk to Luke, too; one of my favorite things at the preschool is just talking to the kids and hearing what they have to say!

I'm soooo glad to hear that about Boma!!! To be honest, I'm just looking for an excuse to visit AKL!!!

Whenever we stayed there back in 2009, we didn't make ADR's because we had never traveled with a child before. We weren't sure if Luke would need a nap or if his schedule would completely change since we were on vacation. We did try to eat at Boma the one evening but had over a 45 minute wait. They said we could wait in our room & they'd call us, but of course with my luck something was wrong with our phone! Looking back, I should've told them to call my cell. Luke ended up falling asleep in the room while we were waiting, so we just grabbed stuff quickly at Mara. I've wanted to try one of the AKL restaurants ever since! I'm really excited to try it but I was afraid no one else would find anything to eat. So I'm really glad you told me all of that!!! Thank you!!!

I need to grab a map because I have no clue where I-90 is! LOL! I can't remember how we get to NY (it's been over 10 years since I've been there!!) but I think we take 70 maybe?? I'm not sure! I'll check Mapquest & let you know! Or you can email me the route you usually take. I may be able to just meet you somewhere without you altering things too much!

And yes, Luke will talk your ear off! LOL! Of course I say this now & then we'll probably meet & he won't say a word! He's going through a stage where he acts super shy sometimes & at other times he talks more than I do!!! :rolleyes1

AKL is sooooo nice. I regret that we didn't really have time to look around there this time, but we did a few years ago. Even if I had the money to stay deluxe, I'm not sure I could, because it seems like those resorts are HUGE and I've been known to get turned around at Pop!

I'll definitely email you at some point. I just checked the directions for here to where my family lives, and then from here to where you live, just to see if the routes were similar, but had to ask my dad, anyway. It is on the way if we go through PA so once it gets closer and I know exactly what days we're leaving, I'll let you know!

I feel like I already kind of know Luke, so I'll be really excited if we do get to meet and he DOES talk to me!

That is an interesting thought about the H&V characters. I wonder who they would add instead if they changed them up some more? Maybe Doc McStuffins? We only had the DIS JR channel for about 2 weeks, and i'm gone in the mornings when they play the shows on regular DIS channel. I'm not even sure what comes on lately other than Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

I'm super jealous of you getting to eat at BOG. I have our ADR's planned for easily adding BOG if it does open up early. I'm thinking we will likely miss it by a couple of weeks though. I keep trying to talk my husband into going back to eat there for Christmas but he has basically told me i am mad LOL

Remind me if I post again on here & haven't already sent you an email -- but I'm going to email you about a few possibilities of meeting places! Then you can MapQuest where your family lives & see if its on the way :goodvibes

I'm soooo incredibly excited, you have no idea!!!! :yay:

Luke has been going thru this weird stage where he "acts shy" but he really isn't! I'm sure once you start talking to him, he'll open up & start talking back...a lot!

If you ever do stay Deluxe, I would recommend AKL or WL if you're worried about getting lost! I just feel that the layout of those two are easier to navigate than others (although I guess it just depends on your room location). I'd just request staying close to the lobby! We were on the Zebra Trail (I think...) at AKL and our room location was amazingly perfect! We just walked thru the lobby, down one tiny hallway, past the elevator & were there! It was like the second or third door on the left! Soooo close to the elevator if we needed to go downstairs to the pool, Mara (the QS there) or to the arcade/playground area and still close to the lobby/gift shop/doors to exit to go to the bus stops! It truly was the perfect location!

You should have seen our first room at the Beach Club last trip! I'm soooo glad we had that incident & moved locations because there's NO WAY I would have ever found our room. Especially if we went back to the room late at night & were tired! It was so confusing! We went down a hallway, to the right, to the left, to the left, to the right...I don't know!!! It was just crazy & too hard to remember! The second room we had was super easy! Off the elevator, down a hallway, turn right & you are there!!! :thumbsup2

I'm afraid to stay at AKL or CBR again because our first locations were so amazing. I'm afraid I'd be disappointed if we weren't in the same building/hallway!

I love your idea to just stay at Pop...it's always best to stay where you feel comfortable!!! I know everyone loves POR but I am super nervous about this upcoming trip! I don't know the resort that well (other than reading other TR's) and I just think I'd feel more comfortable at CBR. Ahh, decisions decisions!!! LOL!

With the recent changes to the TV programming, I just feel they're going to change out more of the Play & Dine characters. Maybe they won't for a few years though since they have recently taken out JoJo, Goliath and Leo. I know Handy Manny is still popular among a lot of Disney fans...but Matthew watched it when he was younger & he's 11 now!! (Wow, how time flies!) If they did switch more characters, I'm not sure who they'd pick! I love your idea of Doc McStuffins though! Luke LOVES her!!! I almost made him a tshirt with the little lamb & dinosaur on it for our trip, but I'm afraid if he wears it to school kids will make fun of him. Sad that we as parents have to think about things like that in this day & age, isn't it?! :sad2:

I am sooooo excited about Be Our Guest!!! It's one of my highlights of our trip! We are not crazy at all over MK's dining options. We actually PREFER their Quick Service over Table Service. So we are def excited about it! I heard a rumor that BoG is going to have a soft opening sometime near or after Halloween. I have NO IDEA if that is true or not, it was a rumor from a source that I am not sure of being reliable or unreliable. I just heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend...one of those things! Construction normally runs behind, so I wouldn't count on it opening early...but you just never know! I hope they at least have the QS open when you're there! I promise to take a ton of pics for you...anything in particular you'd like? PM me or email me & let me know!!! That way, even if you can't eat there this trip, you can feel like you are there thru my photos :goodvibes

I'm not sure of all the Disney Junior shows & their line-up...unfortunately we haven't been home much over the past few months. I do know its changed substantially though. Their "shorts" are completely changed as well. Luke does enjoy Small Potato and Doc McStuffins. Remind me & next time I post, I'll try to list some of the shows!

There are a lot of shows on that I used to watch with Luke when he was around 6-12 months old, but they're only on once each day. I don't like him watching a ton of tv, but I do miss a lot of our old favorites! It makes me sad that Handy Manny and Timmy Time aren't on very much. Imagination Movers was always a favorite of ours too & it's only on once a day! We always seem to miss it! It's sort of strange because I was so thrilled to finally get the 24/7 channel and the shows we mainly watch on there (Doc McStuffins, Mickey Mouse, etc.) are on the regular Disney channel too! LOL The MAIN REASON I really am enjoying this is whenever the kids wake up at odd times in the middle of the night. Have you seen the stuff on at weird times...like 1:45am or 4am ?? It's either disgusting & shouldn't be ON tv or it's an infomercial which drive me crazy!!!

They've also been playing movies on there. I think it's the same movie for a few days or maybe the same one all week? I'm not sure, I haven't looked into it that much yet. I just went thru my tv guide channel to post the shows here for you to see!

I voted, both times. :-)

Thanks Melanie!!!

I cannot wait for your little peanut to be born!!!! It's almost time!!!!!

:woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

Anticipating the birth of your little one really reminds me of how I felt while I was waiting those last few weeks for my little Tyler! It seems like it takes forever for them to get here & then once they are born, they grow soooo fast! Enjoy every moment with your baby :goodvibes

I really wanted to post another update tonight, but I need to focus on my schedule & my ADR's instead! My ADR date is this Wednesday! Yikes!!!

I have a list of restaurants where we want to eat, but I don't have my day to day schedule figured out yet so I'm still not sure where we'll be each day! I did add both Park Hoppers and Water Park & More to our tickets.

I added the Park Hoppers because we love eating at Epcot! There are soooo many choices there & the restaurants are all so different. I seriously think we could eat there every single night! We will most likely have 3 definite lunches or dinners there and possibly 2 others. The three that we "must have" are Garden Grill, Coral Reef, and Les Chefs de France.

I am really freaking over this right now because Disney has decided to choose this year to "HOLD" the reservations until they being booking the Candlelight Processional. I called Dining about this a few days ago & called back again yesterday and every time I call, the CM acts like they don't know what I'm talking about, put me on hold to "talk to someone else" or they "ask a manager." Basically it seems to me that they are just trying to NOT admit that they're holding the reservations...but we know that's what they're doing! The restaurants being held are Rose & Crown, Garden Grill, Coral Reef, and Le Cellier. Chefs is also held for dinner, but you are able to book it for lunch. I'm assuming they will open up regular booking once you are able to book Candlelight Processional, but that may not happen until mid-July. I'll keep you posted once I hear an exact date! :thumbsup2

I added Water Park & More option because of a few reasons. Our plans each year include a day designated just for Downtown Disney. This year, since we are staying at POR, I am not scheduling an entire day for DTD. We will just go over there on free mornings or evenings. I had planned on my husband and Luke going to Disney Quest while I shop and take Tyler with me. I figured this would work out best for all of us because there's really nothing there for Tyler to do & I don't have much interest in going there. My DH wants to take Luke & from what I've shown Luke (maps, video, etc) he seems to want to go too. Originally I was planning for them to go just once to try it out & just pay at the door. But since the mini golfing is now included in the WP&M ticket, I just added that option to our tickets. Now we will be able to go mini golfing (which I had already planned to do on the day we rent our car at the Dolphin! More about that to come!) and they are able to go to Disney Quest as frequently as they want. Personally I think its going to be a complete nightmare. DTD will be packed because of the holidays and my mom (who travels during low crowd seasons) says Disney Quest is nuts unless you get there when they first open & leave mid afternoon. Regardless of this, it cost less to add the WP&M option to all of our tickets than for us to pay once to mini golf and once for them to go to Disney Quest.

I'm off to work on my schedule & hopefully figure out my ADR's! I love planning & I love Disney -- but boy am I getting stressed out with this! I have NO IDEA what I want to do, which park I want to go to, or where I want to eat in December!!!

See why I added park hoppers? ;)

That way, we can change plans whenever we get there if we want & always switch parks mid-day or go somewhere else after our mid-day break! :thumbsup2

I voted from my phone and my computer for you girl! :thumbsup2

I'm glad you added the park hoppers. We honestly never go without, because we love having the freedom to leave one park and go to another...and we ALWAYS end up hopping, literally every day of the trip!

Hi there! I'm joining in on your PTR! I love reading reports with little boys because its almost like reliving our vacations with our DS. :goodvibes

You guys have some wonderful ADRs lined up, I hope that you get all of the ones you want! I've eaten at most of the places you're planning on, and I have to agree that Sanaa is awesome! Its one of our favorites on property! We also really loved Garden Grill when we were there in Dec, and I think its so cute that your DS calls it "the eating ride" :rotfl2: I wasn't expecting much when I made the ADR, but I found the food to be very good!

Looking forward to reading more!

I know! I had planned to add the hoppers but was debating between adding them & getting rid of WP&M or just keeping both! Since we are doing Disney Quest and at least one mini golf, I think its a good choice to keep them both! :thumbsup2

I do have to say though, I am soooo going to miss walking over to Epcot every night! We park hopped last trip just because it was so easy. I loved all of my late night dessert choices

My parents get the hoppers every year & my mom ALWAYS would say "How can you NOT get hoppers???" :confused3 They go to rope drop & EMH's almost every day though, so they really get the most out of their days! We haven't made it to rope drop yet! Maybe this year since the baby does get up early -- but we like to let Luke sleep in!

My main reason for loving park hoppers is the flexibility -- since we have to make dining choices over 6 months in advance, I like to at least be at Disney and still be able to change up plans! We did that last year & it was more relaxing than having such a rigid schedule just because of where I made our dining for that day! :thumbsup2

Hi! Welcome to my report!!! I always love getting new readers! And you're just in time because I'm finally posting more updates!!! :cheer2:

Thanks! I think we made some pretty good choices for dining! I'd love to eat at more new places, but we just HAVE to keep some of our favorites!!! :thumbsup2

Honestly, my main reason for making the Garden Grill reservation last year was so that we could see Chip & Dale and get our pic taken with them!!! I'm so serious too!!! I have very few childhood memories of my first trip, but I do remember Chip & Dale having a special place in my heart as a child! I can never get into their line at the parks -- so I thought about eating with them! What I did selfishly for me ended up being a favorite for my husband & son!!! Can't beat that!!! :lmao: :thumbsup2

It's actually funny that you mentioned Garden Grill because we were just asking Luke the other day if he's going to show our new son, Tyler, anything at Disney. And his reply was "Of course, I'll take him on the eating ride and show him Farmer Mickey, and Pluto, and Chip & Dale. Mickey is my buddy!" :goodvibes

I actually made ADR's this past week & will post that info sometime this weekend!

I noticed your ticker says 187 days and I just made ADR's this past week at 180 days -- so I see you have a little one arriving during my Disney trip!!! How exciting!!!
