Hi

I'm form England and for my adult life im 38 I've never been in a tent! Myself and my two DS's aged 5 and 8 are planning a 3 week holiday next year in Oct. My DH is staying at home due to work committments.

We have booked our flight and I am looking at staying in about 4 different locations. One of them being FW for two nights. I think the boys will love it! I have a few questions and I hope you can help me and I hope you don't think I'm being too silly.

a) As I am on my own do you think if I asked to be near say the public areas as opposed to being in the deep woods they may accomodate me.

b)Do RV's come in and out all night and are the pitches clearly marked so that they could never run over you!!

c) I only plan to really "sleep in a tent " and explore the camp for the two nights not cook etc as I could not bring all the stuff. Is there somewhere to get cooked food.

d) What the sort of cost would be for a three person tent as I intend to buy it out there. Do Wall Mart have tents.

Thanks in advance for your answers I'm not nervous but I do think about possible mishaps!!

This sounds like so much fun! You and your sons will have a super time!

Just ask to be in a site close to a comfort station--you will be nice and close to 'civilization' that way--although no sites in FW are very far from anything.

Most RV's check in during daylight and they will all stay on the paved roads. You will have your tent at the rear of your site on the shell base, so you won't be in any danger!

You can get three meals at day at the Trail's End restaurant--yummy!--or hop a boat to the Contemporary Resort and eat at their food court. You can also get some ready-to-eat foods (sandwiches, etc) at the camp stores.

I checked Wal-Mart.com and they show a 4-person tent for about $40--seems quite reasonable to me!

Have fun planning and give us a holler if you have any more questions!

WOW!! A trip to Wal-Mart, purchasing and pitching a tent... and all for only two nights! I think those are two lucky boys to have a mom to do that!! If I were inclined to go that route, I'd do it for at least four nights or not do it at all. You go girl!!

Yes

Wal-Mart has tents. They have a great camping section filled with all kinds of camping gear, and gadgets!! I could spend a fortune in that section alone if I was so inclined :-)

They have kiddie tents that start at $17 US for one small child, up to 3-room cabin tents at around $150.

You can get a quite comfortable tent that will accomodate all three of you for about $75 US.

Another option would be to get two smaller tents at about $30 US each and have your boys share one and you sleep in the other.

Be sure and also purchase some painters plastic to put under the tent to help keep things dry in case of rain.

A sun/rain shelter besides your tent might also be advisable if it looks like there might be significant rain. The shelters range from $10 for the very least durable to about $34 for a screen house.

Don't go by the number of people the package says the tent holds. Those numbers are meant for sardines only!!!

Don't worry about meals, you can eat at any restaurant on Disney property the same as if you were staying in any hotel on Disney property.

I camp at Ft. Wilderness every December and don't cook there either.

Request Loop 1500 or Loop 2000. Those loops are for tent campers/pop-ups and there probably won't be any big RVs around.

I hope I've been helpful!!

Thank you for all your replies It does make me feel very excited about the trip and I know the boys will love it.

don't worry about the woods, there is enough vegetation for privacy but not enough to be scary. plus you are very safe there much more so than most campgrounds. ( at least I feel that way!)

plus the sites are secluded enough that (at least of all the ones we've stayed in, )we never heard a think or got bright lights in our eyes or what ever from traffic since they are in little loops, off the main road. however, we did not like the "preferred loops" cause it was still a hike to the bus stop and Trail's end area and much noisier.

FW is a great campground and I think you will love it!
