I agree that there are reasons for "no" sometimes.

Hunter and I still read together and she is 10. She is an excellent reader (better than me ) and she reads non-stop on her own. There is still a closeness that reading together brings & I hope we will continue this even as she gets older.

My DD, now 17, loves to read. But, sometimes when she had projects due at school or too much homework, I would have to limit her pleasure reading or the school work wouldn't get done. I spoke to the school about this too.
