I feel really stupid asking this but I've heard moleskin mentioned many times for blisters. I thought you cut it to the desired size then apply it to a blister and it stays longer than a bandage. I was just at the store looking at moleskin and the back of the package said NOT TO COVER BLISTER, but to cut a whole where the blister is and having the moleskin surround the blister. Is this how you use moleskin whenever you have a blister? :confused3 Or should I not pay attention to the directions and use it as I would a bandage?

if you adhere the moleskin directly to your blister, upon removing it you'd be in a lot of pain if the skin stayed attached!

i've done what the directions say - cut a hole in the middle to "cushion" the blister and allow it to breathe, then cover with a bandage - or put the bandage on first perhaps, and cover the whole thing with moleskin (almost sounds like a science, doesn't it?)

I've used it to prevent a blister in certain hot spots. It doesn't roll up or come off like a bandaid would.

Agreed, don't put moleskin on skin that has already blistered. However, if you are feeling a "hot spot" or a place that is rubbing and you get to it before it actually becomes a blister, you can place the moleskin over the spot and prevent a blister. Or if you have a spot that you know might blister, you can act prophylatically(sp.) and put the moleskin on to prevent even the hot spot from starting.

I place an adhesive bandage (BandAid or other brand) over the blister, then the moleskin over that. It should be larger than the bandage so it can adhere to the skin.

Moleskin is a heaven-send! I use it, like the others have suggested, when I feel a "hot spot" and put it on that part of my toe or bottom of my foot or heel but I also put it on the bottom of the inside part of my Crocs. I've pre-cut it but also take full 3x3 sheets with me into the parks. Doing this I don't get blisters anymore. And I use to get award-winning ones!! :)

I can never get the moleskin to stay on. Last year, my well-worn and much loved Mickey flip-flops gave me a blister early on at AK. Bandaids fell off almost instantly and the moleskin lasted only a little longer. I ended up putting the moleskin on first thing in the am then wrapping a piece of hospital-type tape all the way around my foot to keep the moleskin in place. I had to do the same thing with my DD. I do like the bandaid under the moleskin idea - much easier than trying to cut those holes in the middle!

When looking at moleskin, I saw two types...one was Moleskin Plus Padding and the other was Molefoam Padding. I wasn't sure which to get. Does it matter which you use?

I bought the Moleskin Plus padding. I've never tried the Molefoam but it doesn't seem like it would hold up as well. Maybe someone else has tried it and can say for sure.

There are TWO blister products you want to have with you at WDW:

The first is moleskin. This is used to prevent blisters. If you are getting a "hot spot" or tender area on your feet or find that part of your foot is chafing or rubbing, apply the moleskin either directly to your foot or to the inside of your shoe.

The second is Band-Aid Advanced Healing Blister Cushions which cover and protect a blister once they've formed. They are a bit expensive, but they are a lifesaver once you actually get a blister and they last a couple of days.

I don't see how applying moleskin to the SHOE will help....your foot will continue to rub against the moleskin covered part of the shoe, and you'll still get a blister from that! You need to put it on your FOOT so that when the foot continues to rub, the skin underneath is not actually touching and rubbing, just the outer moleskin is.

but next time, I will pack a pair of scissors, too. We did not and had to trek to Everything's Pop to borrow theirs every few days. Just when we thought we had enough precut pieces, another toe would join in on the fun!

The nail clippers just didn't cut it!:rotfl:

:rotfl2: It occured to me when reading this that I hope this advice is never taken out of context, as in:

"I read once on the Dis that you can use moleskin as a prophylactic."

:faint:

I'd also add a third: Body Glide. It helps prevent your shoes from rubbing and can stop blisters from even starting up. :thumbsup2
