If I am in the wrong place, please relocate me, I was unsure where to put this.

I have seen numerous references to Moleskin for blisters - what is it and where can I get it? I have looked in the bandaid section at the grocery store and one of the local drug stores without success. :confused3

Moleskin has a soft suede-like surface with a extremely sticky backing (much stickier than even the stickiest band-aid) that will stick to your feet and stay put all day, even after sweating or getting soaked on water rides. If you have shoes that start to rub your feet, you put a piece of moleskin directly on the spot so that the shoe rubs on the moleskin and not YOUR skin. If you've not waited too long, it will almost always prevent you from getting a blister.

It comes packaged a few different ways. One is pre-cut shapes that you can just peel & stick. It's also packaged as several small sheets (a little smaller than a small index card) that you can cut into shapes yourself. A third kind has the same suede-y surface and stickiness, but there's also a gel layer with some "give", so it protects from friction AND pressure.

I've seen all three kinds sold in the foot care area of drug stores and discount stores (like Target, Wal-Mart, etc). That's where you'd also find the insoles, foot powders, etc.

Hope this helps!

I always buy a couple packs before each trip and we've been blister free. Before I go on my trip I buy the ones that come in sheets and cut them in various sizes and put them in a zip loc baggie.

It is so sticky that when you try to take it off, it gives you a hard time.....and if you already have a blister...it will peel the layer of skin on the blister off.....OUCH!

If unfortunately you do develop a blister....use corn pads...place the opening for the corn over the blister....voila! it holds the shoe from rubbing against the blister!!!!!

Around here they stock it in all the drugstores - Walgreens, RiteAid, CVS, etc. And the big grocery stores have it in their Health & Beauty sections. It is made by Dr. Scholls, and comes in a yellow and red bag with one small, blue, curved stripe. It hangs on hooks and can be found with all the other foot stuff.

They also sell MoleFoam, which I don't really like. It's cushy, yeah, but it takes up too much space and cramps my foot. Plus, when it rubs against the toe next to it, it can cause a blister.

I leave it on for more than one day. It dries out pretty quick after a shower.

If you just have one small problem area, a better bet are the band-aid gel bandages. They protect better, stay on longer, and come off on their own. We use a larger version in the hospital to protect patients from "bedsores."

:flower:

If you are in a jam, many of the resorts stock it -- for example, I got some at the store at All Star Movies

Another good suggestion is to spray your feet with spray deodorant every morning. I don't know why it works, but the one day I didn't do it, my feet started getting sore. Didn't have to use too much moleskin that trip.
