Moles In Your Yard

Have you had success handling this problem yourself or do you call in a professional?

We had a (one, singular) mole that was delivered with the sod we put in our front yard. He dug up our yard, made some tunnels in the neighbor's yard, then was never seen again. If you've got more than one, well...

If you have moles, it is because you have a food source - grubs. Treat the grubs. Try to eliminate the moles and you will end up like what's his name on caddyshack with the gophers. They will make you insane.

Another wife here.......we need to start a club. :teeth:

And to answer WEDWDW's question; my DH thinks he's a professional!!!

We've had voles (like field mice) for years. I've tried everything, filling in the tracks with yards of dirt, traps, poison. Hired Fox pest control for 2 years and then gave up. I guess this is their home and they've ruined a portion of our lawn :confused3

I'm semi hopeful this past year because we've seen an abundance of snakes and I'm hoping they're eating them lol

A relative is rife with moles. They're very annoying. I remember staying over there once and saw a little head poke out of the ground. It took stock of me, decided I was Stranger Danger and vanished toot sweet.

i hate voles. they are unstoppable. we even had a neighbor who took to (i kid you not) trying to shoot fire into their tunnels to drive them out. you still see the mounds in the warm months, the snow tunnels in the cold months.

Maybe try and figure out where they are coming from? We had them bad in our neighborhood in Texas. It didn't matter how many my husband got, they were always there. Then we figured out they were coming from the homes behind our house (nice big 1 acre lots). We gave up at that point. I'm sorry-probably not the news you wanted to hear.

We have them. We live on 5 acres, so we will never get rid of them. We tried hiring a professional for our front yard but as soon as they stop trapping, they came back. We tried those sonic things but it didn’t last. The only thing I’ve had success with is we dug a section of our front yard out, placed wire and put soil and sod on top so they can’t dig up to the surface. But that’s a lot of work for a whole yard and we still have them everywhere else. Our neighbors cats catch some for us but they are just a part of country life out here unfortunately.

In a prior home we used our lawn spreader to put down an insecticide in the Spring and Summer to kill the bugs that were in the lawn. If you eliminate the bugs, the moles go elsewhere. If you have a HUGE yard, that might not be cost effective. But always seemed to work for us. Would always coordinate with my neighbors on either side when doing this or else they ended up damaging their lawn instead. Some other neighbors had those sonic spikes, but no idea if they actually worked or were just a gimmick. There is also a garlic scented spray in a container you attach to your garden hose that seemed to work well too.

My impression was if you live an area where moles are present, you will never eliminate them so there is no point in trying to figure out where they come from............they are simply in the area. However, you can do things to discourage them for damaging your lawn by eliminating the bugs in your lawn. If they can't find any food in your yard, they will look elsewhere.

I think this is an important part of getting rid of them, along with treating the lawn for grubs. Critters don’t respect property boundaries, lol. If you have a problem, your neighbors will too. You need to all treat at the same time. We used to have voles which were destroying our lawn with tunnels & holes, as did a few neighbors. Everyone was doing their own thing, or nothing, about them. Like a PP, we had Fox exterminators which was a huge waste of money. We all started having a lawn service plus husband & 1 of the neighbors used elimination products from Lowe’s. The problem has been pretty much eliminated the last 3-4 years. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

We had a couple of moles when we bought the house in 2012, which my dog at the time dispatched. She passed away in 2019 and now I have tiny useless dogs but regardless, haven't seen them since.

When our calico was alive and still going indoors/outdoors, we found moles laying by our side door at least once a season. She was very accomplished.
Our daughters cat would kill them, decapitate them and leave the heads and innards where they could see them. I guess he was proud of it and left those disgusting body parts for proof, LOL.

Our dogs would go BANANAS if we have moles/rabbits/badgers… They're terriers, and Tillie especially was bred for tackling badgers and even otters!

And while reading this thread, I see an ad for Nadaderm, mole remover. So maybe you all just need to squirt this stuff in the tunnels. May not get rid of them, but they will have clearer skin. 🤣

I had one once and bought the little cone poison thing from Lowes or Home Depot (think it was Victor brand) and when I dropped it in the ground I covered the hole with a bucket with a wheel barrel on top so nothing else could get it it, I think I left it on from one morning to the following evening then pulled it up and covered the hole with dirt to keep anything else from getting into it. It went away and nothing came back.
