Mole!!!!

Our yard is being destroyed by a mole (or maybe several hundred of them from the looks of it )
Any suggestions on how to get rid of them???

Geez, a friend of mine, who no longer lives in the area, had the same problem. I know that she did get in touch with animal control for the problem, but I wish I could remember the remedy.

I remember my Mom frantically running around sticking Juicy Fruit gum down the holes. Don't know if that's an urban legend or not.

Personally, our cat takes care of moles in our yard.

You could always get a fierce, brave Jack Russell Terrier to take care of the problem. I'd offer you the services of Monty Dog, but well, he'd probably be horrified of it.

Seriously, I'd try animal control. They might be able to suggest something or come and trap the mole.

We've tried everything and nothing gets rid of them.....we must have good dirt

hmmm...let's see...do you have moles or voles?? There IS a difference...I have no idea what it is....


some things that we've done that seem to have moved our moles to greener lawns:

*stick a whirlygig in the ground...the vibration caused when the breeze moves the windmill irritates the moles.

*moth balls in the mole hole....if you can find them...I've also heard human hair works too...but haven't tried that



The only thing that REALLY works is to treat your yard for grubs and japanese beetles...as the grubs and larvae from japanese beetles are both favorite foods of the mole.

My dad was told by a friend of his that works in pest control to put moth balls in the holes and cover them up...says the smell will drive them away.

Get a cat!! No, I'm not being sarcastic, either! For some reason, two moles (that we know of) have gotten into our house. Luckily, our older cat has taken care of them both!!

My elderly neighbor had a mole in her yard, and he dug partially under mine for a while too. Her solution? The good old mothball trick. Since she's done it, we've been mole-free for 2 months and counting!

We have a cat, but she is an 6-pound inside cat with no claws. The mole would probably get rid of her instead of the other way around, LOL. I wish my little terrier mix would take care of it for me. I found a dead mouse in our back yard that she had taken care of. You know, if I have to have a problem with rodents, why couldn't it be rabbits.
I think I'll give the mothballs a try. Maybe even treating the yard for Japanese beetles. If I get really desperate I'll try the juicy fruit. My grandmother mentioned peanut butter, but I just can't see trying to stick peanut butter down a hole.
I'll keep y'all updated on the mole situation.

I have 4 cats.....all good hunters.
We've tried moth balls, mole "bombs" and many other things and still have holes all over our yard......we do have over 3 acres.
They like the pond...soft, nice dirt to tunnel through.

Here's what my Mom did and it worked.

She got some dishwashing soap and squeezed a bunch into every hole. Then she turned on the hoses and filled the tunnels. The critters came out with stinging eyeballs and Mom bashed their brains in. No more moles.

I know the animal control office my late uncle worked at had many options that were did not involve the bashing in of anyone's brains.

Usually when he had to go after some sort of critter that was ripping up someone's property he used some sort of traps that went into the ground and then released the critter in the woods somewhere.

The mothball thing works too. Also, clearing out the bugs that they like to eat. If they no longer have a steady food supply in your yard, they'll usually leave.

You could also call an exterminator who can determine if severe action needs to be taken (ie. actually killing them) and they can do it in a way that does not cause them pain, but if it's only a few of them, they usually can just drive them out or catch them and relocate.

We've had one ourselfs for about 4 years now. We have tryed everything and we still got the little varmint. Our friend loaned us one of those traps that go into the ground and we have a live cage and tryed to catch him. We caught a opossum. That is all we caught. Apparently the opossum was living under our deck.

This year for some reason we aren't over run with rabbits. We had rabbits for about 10 years. Them little things did more damage than the mole.
