The last time I stayed at Vero Beach (October) the room had a very strong musty, moldy odor. I would have just lived with it but it drove my wife nuts. The cast members said it was a very common problem at VB and they offered us a (loud) dehumidifier. They said they had used ionizers(?) but had stopped using them. I love Vero but I also love my wife. Has anyone experienced this problem? What can be done?

Were you in a villa or in the main inn?

We have always had a strong smell in our room but it smelled like someone dropped an entire bottle of nail polish remover. It seems to go away after we have been in the room for a while.

I've given up on trying to figure out all the various different musty smells at resorts in Florida. It must have something to do with the humidity levels there.

I am interested in knowing what room you were in or the general area.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. We were in an inn room, ocean view. If memory serves, it was on the third floor.

Gee, great. We have a request in for the 3rd floor.

I think I am just in a bad mood today.

Did you have an ocean view? Did your room have a couch in it?

Thanks for the info.

Welcome to the ocean, humidity & mildew. It's a common problem in the south along the coast.

Yes on the ocean view. No on the couch!

There probably isn't a lot they can do about it. It definately is hard to control in Florida.

If it got to the point that there was mold in their ventilation system then they would have to do something drastic because that can be dangerous.

I'd be curious to know if they have some type of commercial grade dehumidifier somewhere in the building to try and counteract the problem.

A lot of the resorts in Orlando have the same problem.

We have never fell ill after staying there so I guess I'm not going to worry about it too much.
