Why just spanish? Why not French (Belle, Cinderella)? German (Snow White)?

Why just Spanish? What about the other country's that visit WDW, Japan, China, Egypt?

I dont expect other countries to accomodate my language if I go there. I am getting a little tired of all the liberals thinking we need to accomodate everyone else's language. And at who's expense in the end???

I mentioned this earlier...that it's possible that right now they're just testing this out with the second most popular language spoken in this country...and that since this is a first for them, it's possible they want to see how it goes before implementing other languages.

I think most of us are in agreement that more languages should be represented. If they're going to have other languages spoken by the princesses, it shouldn't be solely English and Spanish -- it should include other languages as people from many other countries come to WDW!

So now this is becoming a liberal/conservative issue?? :sad2:
This isn't a matter of accomodating...it's a matter of spreading a little magic to a person who is on vacation. My gosh, what have they done. :sad2:
For the record, I am a conservative, not a liberal.

Ouch!!!!

I've been to WDW while the Brazilians have been there. Yes, they might get crazy and act up -- but don't all teenagers!? I've seen the same behavior coming from American teens while I've been overseas. I've seen some Americans behave poorly in foreign countries and, as an American, have been embarassed by their actions. I've wanted to say "We're not all like this" ... and I'm sure many Brazilians would say the same thing. I've often thought "Now I know why this country hates Americans!" b/c I've seen some behaviors coming from Americans that are unbelievable!!!!

No, all teenagers do not act so obnoxious. But if you have read many of the threads, there have been way too many reflecting on the Brazillian tour groups. Sure, there are teens from all over who misbehave. But again, if you kept up with the numerous posts, you would see why I mentioned the Brazillians. Remember, no one ever said "all Brazillians". Don't read so much into the posts. ;)

Well I never said anything about not liking anyone... :rotfl2:

Where are you getting the info that they are "technically & scientifically" caucasian? I've never seen that. Because from what I've always seen and researched, race is more of a social definition than an actual scientific one...which is why even the definition of "Caucasian" differs depending on where in the world you are. Ethnicity and Nationality are really the only two that actually have a more solid "definition"....because those can be geographically placed. Race really can't be...it's relative to the individual.
And being Hispanic myself, I've never met another Hispanic person who has taken umbrage to the remarks that they are not caucasian...quite the opposite in fact.

Talk about taking a spin off the debate going on here...kind of nice to break away from the chaos, though. :)
Brought it up because the term "racist" was being used. Whether or not certain posters have hate in their hearts isn't something I would presume to know, but if you're going to name-call, at least use the right name. :)

I learned it from my parents, and then in Sociology. Here's a Wikipedia link for you. :) It even mentions how "hispanic" folks sometimes get upset when told they aren't Caucasion (white.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caucasian_race

And we wonder why people in so many countries think Americans are arrogant. :confused3

For the record, I never called anyone here a racist. :)
I saw that link just earlier this evening. :) I would love to know which Hispanics they talked to about that...because that's definitely news to me and other Hispanics I know. :confused3 But then again, Wikipedia isn't always the most reliable source.

I agree w/you and every time I travel abroad, I do my v. best to speak their language and get along in understanding what they're telling me. I use my phrase book and muddle through.

However, even though it's located in the US, Disney isn't just a US thing -- Disney has identified itself internationally. I think that makes a difference.

I'm not a liberal. I do believe the President himself speaks some Spanish and has a Mexican relative, doesn't he?

Ok, maybe not all ... but can we agree to a majority!? I don't have to keep up w/all the threads b/c I've experienced the Brazilian students first hand on several occassions. Some are v. kind and considerate and others aren't. You will see this in groups of teens throughout the world. Not every teen in a group is going to be kind and considerate and not every teen is going to be hugely obnoxious. But, you get a group together and often they play on each other and get riled up.

You totally portrayed Americans as arrogant w/your slam to the Brazilians. If someone started a thread on how obnoxious the Americans at WDW were, I wonder if you'd get bent out of shape!? And, I've seen a lot of obnoxious Americans at WDW. It's not just the Brazilians ... obnoxious people come from all cultures.

ETA - Are you telling me that your teen has never done anything obnoxious?

If being arrogant means taking a stand and refusing to spend my hard earned money to accomodate others who expect it. So be it!!

My Spanish professor - sorry, she'd drop over dead if she knew I said that...professora - for one, doesn't like to be classified as non-white. Neither does my neighbor, Marta. They both come from Mexico, one from Chihuahua, specifically. They ARE white!

Yo hablo un poquito...ito...ITO espanol. Quiero ir a WDW a ver Mickey. I probably got that wrong. It is my first class. :)

Well then I guess you should stop going to Disney then...
Besides, you're not the only person here who has worked hard for their money.

I feel a song coming about.... :lmao:

Oooooh .... I am so telling on you!!!!!!!!! You are sooooo in trouble!!!! I'm gonna call up la professora and direct her to your faux pas (don't know how to say that in Spanish) on this thread!!!!! :rotfl:

Sorry -- needed to add a little levity here! :teeth:

I think the solution is for the Princesses to speak thier NATIVE language...

Belle is from France, French
Snow White German
Cinderalla, (Not sure here, but I know it's not America)
Jasmine, Arabic or maybe French
Sleeping Beauty, back to German
Pocohantus What tribe was she from

Maybe your kids would learn a second language.
And so on.

(And from reading this, it bothers me that some of these hateful comments come from parents. Wonder what you are teaching your kids? Bigotry is right?)

And then there is my favoirte. While I was at Disneyland Paris I met my "fellow Americans" who WHINED that things were in FRENCH.

I just realized that no one ever answered my question about the small world ride. How come there aren't threads complaining that the song is sung in different languages when the ride is in an English speaking country? I've never seen a person complain about that...so now that Disney dares to expand that to something else on their property, people are now going to make a big deal about it? We should probably then ban the Epcot passports too...since the CMs tend to write small phrases in their native language. And while we're at it, let's get rid of the Spanish translation of the monorail spiel.

To me this is a non issue.

First: Real Princesses are taught many languages since birth so they can accomplish their diplomatic mission with grace and elegance. So its a higher standard they are trying to set while making happy memories to a three or four year old who's native language is not english.

Second: Don't they give announcements in many languages all the time in WDW. Is that also wrong?

Third: "With the hope that it wiil be a source of Joy and inspiration to all the WORLD". Walter Elias Disney

I see that their are some people complaining that it is just spanish. I agree with that. However shouldn't that bother the people who speak other languages and not the people that speak english.. Regardless I am sure they did not decide to pick spanish out of a hat. They most certainly have the numbers of where the majority of tourist are coming from, if not they would have chosen some other language.

Would you just read the post? Seems like you are totally confused and trying to add words to my post. I never slammed anyone -- just pointed out what many (and I mean many) other posters have witnessed and experienced. That's all. I can't help it that one particular group of individuals stood out. Again, you obviously went off on your own tangent and did not read my post. ;)
