modifying studio to 2BR lock-off

I currently booked a hard category of room (BLT std studio). If more people join our trip, would I be able to modify this reservation to a 2BR lock-off if only the 1BR std had availability? (ie. assuming the std studio sells out... but I still have it reserved, can I "use that studio" in my 2 BR lock-off if the one BR is available.

No. I've tried it with BWV. You could book the 1BR, keep the studio and then call MS to request that they are connecting. BUT you will pay more points for a 1BR+studio than you will for a 2BR lockoff AND there is no guarantee that the room assigner will be able to put you in a connecting studio and 1BR.
