Hello all, I currently have a reservation booked from August 22-Sept 1 at AKV Jambo House, I was thinking of renting some points and applying those to my vacation to save some points for a vacation next year. If I were to rent points can those be applied to the existing reservation or would I have to cancel a couple nights and rebook? I just don't want to risk losing those nights if I cancel and they're not available. Thanks!

If you were to get a points transfer and you either use AKV points or you reserved at 7 months (so you did not use home resort priority) then you should be able to free up the points by having them reallocated but if you just rent points from someone they would have to make the reservation.

Not sure you a need to do what you are contemplating since if you need more points for a trip next year, you can either bowrrow additional points from your follwoing use year or get a transfer of points before you do the reservation, i.e., that would do the same thing you are cosidering doing.

I am not certain the same rules will apply to transferred points but here are the usual practices followed by MS as to points you own:

If you make a reservation at AKV between 7 and 11 months out (when only owners of a resort can reserve), they will allow you to later replace any points in that reservation with other AKV points (such as newly purchased or newly banked points). If you made the reservation at 7 months or less out, they will allow you to replace any points in the reservaiton with points from any other resort. However, if you made the reservation between 11 and 7 months out, they will allow to replace points in that reservation with points from another resort only if the reservation you already have is separately available at the time you want to make the change.

Why not keep the existing reservation as is and then try to get a points transfer for your vacation next year if you need more points? That way you don't jeopardize what is already booked and you won't be buying points that you may end up not needing if your plans for next year change. I guess I'm not seeing an obvious reason why you would want to do things the way you have described.
