Modifying ADR at last minute

I know you used to be able to modify an ADR during the 24 our window to avoid being charged a cancellation fee.

Now that it is a 2 hours window, are you still able to do that or has the “loophole” disappeared?

I am not sure, but I wish they would go back to requiring cancellation the night before. I fell like there is less availability now the night before than there used to be.

I get that, though they now have much better "walk up/waitlist" availability. This probably moves the needle for guest satisfaction more than someone scoring a reservation at 11pm the night before.
