Modification less than 30 days - results?

We are less than 30 days from a reservation. The room and resort we booked are not our fav so continue to look for better options. This group is always so great at confirming policies - because we don't change this close to the reservation so I want to ensure I understand it correctly. If another room/resort opens up that we prefer, I can modify that reservation without penalty correct? The new reservation would be more points as we are in a smaller unit now so nothing into holding but making sure there is not some other issue with that? Our use year is Feb and won't be there again before then so hoping a modification would not trigger something else I am not thinking of. Thank you in advance!

Yes if something pops up you can modify without penalty for more points. Some have said that they have modified for less points recently and points didn’t go into holding. Most likely due to the ongoing flight issues. DVC has just put the points back, but who knows how long this will happen.
