I am not sure if this is where I would post this But it falls under DVC for me since we will be staying at SSR our first time in April-
Being our first time I am trying to figure which mode of transportation we take to get to where we want to go...

We will be driving so we do have our own transport However, I would like to take Disney Transportation as often as possible and as time allows...
So, If we go to DTD from SSR- we can take the Ferry, correct? But to get to MK from DTD how would we go? I'dlove to take the Monorail- would we take the ferry back to... and then Monorail from there or would it be bus- etc-
Is there a place that shows al modes of transportation available from each area and ffrom that area- etc-?
I need to see how long each will take also so we are not late for ADR's and Parades, Fireworks, etc- Thx so much!

Yes you can take the ferry from SSR to DTD. To get to MK from DTD, you would have to go back to one of the resorts. So if you wanted to take the monorail, then you would have to take the bus to one of the monorail resorts and then get on the monorail to the MK.

Here's something I found on the Disney website.

Q: What is the best way to get around within Walt Disney World® Resort?

A: There are many modes of transportation within Walt Disney World® Resort, including Bus, Boat and Monorail.
A rundown of transportation options within the Resort is as follows:

By Bus:
Most areas of Walt Disney World® Resort are accessible by bus from other areas within the Resort, including Theme Parks*, Water Parks, the Disney Resorts and the Downtown Disney® area. Buses travel on routes throughout the Resort and do not provide direct service between all destinations.
*Magic Kingdom® Park is not accessible by bus from Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney's Polynesian Resort. These Resorts provide monorail transportation to the Park.

By Boat:
Magic Kingdom® Park is accessible by water launch from Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Resort, Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground and Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The Disney ferryboats connect Magic Kingdom Park to the Transportation and Ticket Center (adjacent to Magic Kingdom parking).

Epcot® and Disney's Hollywood Studios™ are accessible by boat from Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas Resort, Disney's Yacht Club and Disney's Beach Club Resorts and Walt Disney World Swan and Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotels.

Downtown Disney® is accessible by ferryboat from Disney's Port Orleans Resort, Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort.

By Monorail:
Disney's monorail runs between Magic Kingdom Park, Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney's Polynesian Resort and the Transportation and Ticket Center (adjacent to the Magic Kingdom parking lot). A connecting monorail takes Guests from the Transportation and Ticket Center to Epcot.

I know that there's a website that gives travel times to and from the resorts and the parks, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe someone else might know what it is. Hope this helps!:thumbsup2

SSR to DTD - boat or walk

SSR to any Park - bus

DTD to other Disney Resort - bus
~If you take DTD bus to Polynesian or Contemporary or Grand Floridian
you can then take monorail to MK (or boat).
~Monorail service stops at Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) where you can transfer to Epcot monorail.
~DTD bus to Wilderness Lodge or Fort Wilderness then boat to MK.
~Also, DTD bus to Boardwalk or Yacht/Beach Club for boat to Epcot or DHS or you may walk from these resorts to these parks (Swan/Dolphin too).

Also, iirc from DTD you can get a bus to TT Center where you can get Monorail to Epcot or MK or ferry to MK and bus to DHS or AK Theme Park.

Bus transportation runs on a frequent, regular schedule.

You may want to post on Transportation Board to get more insight on amount of time you should allow for travel - lots of great help there.

If you are trying to make an ADR I'd estimate for bus direct to a park from SSR at least approx
20-30 minutes; for bus from DTD and then a connection to second mode of transport (monorail or boat) I'd say at least 40-60 minutes.

Best wishes:)

you can walk to DD from SSR or take the boat.

the ferry at TTC that goes to the MK - you don't even need to take it - unless you want too.

the resort bus that take you to the MK - really takes you to the MK- you are let out just steps away. so the monrail or ferry you don't need to take.

to get from one resort to another resort it is generally quicker to drive.

exception - you are at the MK and want to visit Polyn, GF, CR or WL - then definitely take a boat or monrail.

you are at Epcot or Studios and want to visit BC, YC, BCV, BW or D&S - then just walk or boat

If you have a car, I would recommend driving to Downtown Disney (unless your room is close enough to walk) and to any other resort hotel to dine, shop, etc.

Visiting the Magic Kingdom is a toss-up. When you drive you have to park at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and then take either the Monorail or Ferry boat to the park itself. For this reason driving usually takes longer than buses (which drop you off right outside of the park.) If you want to take the monorail, then drive at least once. That's your best opportunity to ride the monorail. I would also consider driving if you plan to leave the park right after fireworks or at park closing time. The sheer volume of guests departing then can leave you standing at the bus stops for a loooooonng time which they move everyone.

The other three parks are about the same regardless of whether you go by bus or car. You drive on the same roads so it's the same physical distance. If you decide to take a bus, you will probably have to wait at a bus stop for a few minutes. If you decide to drive, you will have to park the car and walk to the front gate. Not much difference, IMO.

The scales tip in favor of driving if you would want to go to another theme park or Downtown Disney directly after leaving one park. You cannot take a bus from Epcot to the Magic Kingdom or Epcot to Downtown Disney. So if there are multiple stops on your daily agenda, just drive.

Parking is free and there are plenty of signs pointing you right to the parks.

Thx for all thehelp- I will search around here for more info- the Transportation Board didn't seem to have the info I needed- Everything seems to be about getting to Disney, Leaving Disney, ME & Airport info, etc- I couldn't find anything- even in a sticky about Park to Resort to Park transport info- I also couldn't find any info on getting to other areas of Disney (DTD) from Resort or Park-
Figured at least a sticky would have that info- It didn't... :confused3

if you eating say at the Polyn - you drive to the Polyn - tell the security guard your name, driver license and where you are eating.

or give him your confirmation number

then you can park at the self park or valet parking at the Poly - or any of the Mk or Epcot resorts.

now this is only if you are at SSR, if you are at the MK, - just take the monrail to the Polyn.

Thx spiceycat- I think I found enough to try and at least plan which route of transport to take, when & where- I will start trying to set this up "loosely" so we still have fun

Another question, if we are at a park for Evening EMH will there be transport to get us back to Resort (SSR)

Also, if we have a late ADR at a Resort and stay to "check things out" - How late can we get a bus back to SSR- I guess I am asking for time of last run-

DTD is not too big a deal since we can walk if we have to...
Thx!

yes - the park will provide transportation back and forth to the WDW resorts (which DVC is) - until 2 hours after they close. close is after EMH hours are over. if you ever get stuck call security.

at the resort depends - if EMH is going on or not. MK EMH can be until 3 am.

the other parks close much earlier.

with PI closed not sure what the new hours are for DD buses. would say be sure to be back at dd by 11 pm - probably midnight.

Actually you can get to Old Key West from SSR by using the same boat that takes SSR to DTD.... handy if you want to eat at Olivia's.

As stated the buses continue to run for some time after the parks closed (although I thought it was only 90 minutes, not 2 hours.) However, there is no direct bus transportation between resorts.

There several ways to get from one resort to another, but most of them vary depending upon the exact resorts in question. As a rule of thumb, the only way to use buses to go from one resort to another is by switching buses at a theme park. For example, you could take a bus from the Yacht Club to the Magic Kingdom. Then at the Magic Kingdom you can board a bus for Saratoga Springs. That's the only practical route to get from the YC to SSR.

(As I said, there are other options but with this being your first trip you would have a very difficult time trying to digest all of the variations.)

Depending on the timing and destinations in question, it can take you 90-120 minutes to reach your final destination using this approach. That's why I would highly recommend using your car if you plan to go directly from SSR to another resort or vice-versa.
