Can older threads like this http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=564645 be closed or moved to a new location.

This section is supposed to be for upcomming cruise meets. It is wonderfull that freindships have been formed while on a cruise, but all the chat back and fourth on 2 and 3 year old threads, pushes up comming cruise dates to the 2nd and 3rd page.

A new section called "keeping in touch" or something to that effect would be a great idea.

Thanks.

it's easy to keep track of your meets thread. All you have to do is subscribe and also, once you post you see your arrow and that is all you have to find.

If your meets thread is not very active you'll find it will be bumped to the second page just by all the other cruises, no matter if they are past or future cruises...look at all the 2009 meets threads that opened up.....

But are threads with 19,000 replies ebnifitial to any but the 2 or 3 people having a private conversation there?

The title of this area is to meet and hook up with people for upcomming cruises, not be chitty chatty 2 and 3 years after. All I am saying is there should be a better place for that.

Upcpmming cruise threads should be closed a week or 2 after the sail date.

I know many of us have formed friendships through the DIS and have cruised several times together. I guess I see nothing wrong with keeping them open.

Even the up and coming cruise threads are full of chitty chatty.

I like the idea of three forums instead of two.

One for trip reports
One for upcoming cruises
One for completed cruises.

Sorry, I just don't see the problem myself. I just subscribe or scroll. Easy! I don't see the significance in having to have a thread on the first couple of pages. It would be fine if it was sectioned off but I see that it would be a lot of work for the mods and I think they have so much volunteer work to do anyway.

Edited to add that I started a thread on the cruise board about what juices the drink station had and formed a huge bond with a great bunch of people. We chat daily and the thread was moved here by a moderator.

not everybody uses the boards the same way.

These boards were designed so that older less relevent threads slip back on pages. Up comming cruises have more relevenace than a cruise that happened 3 years ago.

It's great that you track your threads. But when I booked my cruise, and then came here to find the meet and greet thread for my cruise (1st time) it was on page 3.

The moderators read almost every thread anyway. I know, they sure like to ding me for every infraction. It would be nothing to simply move a thread after the set sail date to a past cruise board.

I'd have to agree with the op...18 of 50 or 36% of tonight's first page are threads whose sail date has passed...some as long as a year or two ago. As a relative "newbie" to the cruise boards, I don't have much to go on, but a new area for past cruises could be started and that would give newer or yet to come cruise dates a chance to develop into the type of heavily used thread that some of these have become...:thumbsup2

Just my 2 cents!

Fairwinds....

know everyone has their own opinion about the threads an the chit chat.

we all do it, whether we want to admit it or not. it comes with the territory.

I get e-mail notification with my subscriptions, and if I want to read it, I do, if not I just delete the e-mail notice.

I don't go to the cruise meets section of othe DIS - I put the threads that I post on in my "favorites" and access them from there. I never know what thread is on what page or where it is in the cruise meets section.

I actually think it is very nice to see everyone keeping up and saying "hi" from time to time with everyone that they have met over the years.

Isn't that one of the things about the DIS anyways?

When I click on my favorites and then the thread I want to read, it takes me back to the last one that I either posted on or read.

It is easy to customize your own computer to your needs.

That is the easiest way. Really no reason to put something under another section.

just my 2 cents :rolleyes1
