Can I book a moderate resort with my DVC points? I'm sure if it's possible it would be what some would consider a waste of points but we've always wanted to try one of the Port Orleans resorts just for something different.

Yes, For POR in 2012 you would need 17 - 32 points per night, depending on the season.

and David would rent those for you and give you $170 to $320...

Compare those numbers to posted (not rack) cash rental rates for the nights of your stay. You will probably find that it is pretty painless to rent and you will come out with some pocket money to spend for parks and dining. :woohoo:

there is also a $95 reservation fee for trading your pts outside of the DVC system.

Wow, look at those point charges for the Deluxe resorts. It costs 3 to 4 times as many DVC points to stay at the Yacht Club than right next door at the BCV.

Just because Disney gives you the ability to book outside of the DVC resorts, doesn't mean that it's a good deal. IMO they don't want you to do so but they want to be able to advertise the possibility to sell new contracts. That's why the point requirements are high plus they added the $95 fee.

If your points are resale points, and purchased after the cut off date, you can NOT use them at the resorts.
