My fiance and I will honeymooning in Disney World in September 2012. We always stay at Moderate resorts when we go to Disney World, usually Port Orleans Riverside. However, for our honeymoon we were thinking of upgrading to a Deluxe Resort. I'm looking to get your opinions of Moderate versus Deluxe. Is there a big difference between both? Is it worth splurging?

Yes, huge difference. Splurge for the Deluxe. You're only going to have one honeymoon.

I stayed at the Caribbean, the Contemporary in an upgraded suite, and the Grand Fla in a standard. Visited a standard room in the Poly.

Contemporary was by far the most luxe. Don't know how much those rooms go for, as I used a CM discount and was magically upgraded in addition. Used this to prep for the wedding. I know that compared to the Poly and Grand Fla, the Contemporary is generally a lot cheaper for standard rooms.

Poly was more expensive, but was roomier than the Grand Fla. Grand Fla was nice, but quarters were tighter than I'd expected.

Caribbean Beach was clean enough, but not the most relaxing place to be visually.

I stay mostly at DVC resorts which are deluxe and unless you get a 1 bedroom or higher I really don't see a difference in a studio at a deluxe resort vs a studio at a moderate resort. But as far resorts go as a whole your gonna find the deluxes are better with food options, theming, access to some of the parks. Which deluxe resort were you thinking??

Thanks for the responses! I think we will end up splurging, you do only get one honeymoon. We're leaning towards the AKL, we visited this resort the last time we were there and really liked the theming and loved Jiko. I love the idea of having a balcony overlooking the Savannah. Though I've read a lot of complaints about the buses being terrible with wait times which kind of scares me.

Considering doing a split stay, few nights at AKL and then a few at one of the MK resorts.

In that case definitely splurge. Once you try ALK is hard to stay anywhere else. (It's my favorite.) Well maybe not that hard it is Disney but you know what I mean. I have stayed at both Jambo and Kidani and I think the buses are just fine. We never waited more than 15 minutes for a bus and we always got a seat going to a park so I guess it all depends on the time of year you go. Now the Epcot resorts, that's a different story their bus system is horrible but can't beat being able to walk to two parks.

I'd splurge. The Mods are very nice but the Deluxe's are just wonderful!! AKL and the CR are our favorites!

we are honeymooning in december 2012 and we are thinking about a split stay. My DF is a deluxe resort person he loves the contemporary but I love more themed places. I have stayed at the polynesian it is ok. I really love the wilderness lodge and we will be there in december of this year.

Our split stay will be Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary I think.

Prior to the wedding we will be at the beach club because of the wedding at Sea Breeze Point

We split our stay among 4 different Disney resorts over 2 weeks, and I really enjoyed it. Each time we checked into a new place, it was like starting a new trip. :goodvibes

We were torn between renting DVC points and just staying at a mod like we usually do. In the end we went with the mod because it enabled us to stay longer (because we saved so much). We're the type that spend most of our time out in the parks anyway so it doesn't really matter too much where we sleep at night. Another reason that we wanted to go with a mod is that we wanted to be at the same resort as all of our guests. If we went with a DVC it would have been too much for most of our family members to afford (most are not from FL so they don't get the discounts that we do). Another perk is that we're using some of the money we've saved to do an Animal Kingdom tour :)
