I have a modem that ATT gave me so long ago (before it was ATT) and I believe it is starting to go. Do I have to go through ATT to get another or can I go to walmart and buy one?. Are they all the same? What do I look for? Want to do this in the most inexpensive way possible.
AT&T would probably give you a free one. We just moved, and the previous modem doesn't work here, so they mailed out a new one free of charge. Even though we're not keeping their service, the modem is ours to keep.
Call your provider - you've probably been paying a fee to rent that modem every month.
You can go buy your own and hook it up and avoid the rental fee, and you'll then be responsible for replacing it. Or you can keep paying and they'll send you "new" ones when theirs break.
What type is it? Is it for DSL? We changed from DSL to Uverse and I may have a Westell modem from AT&T/Bellsouth. I can send you a picture and would be happy to give it to you if you think it will work. Just message me and let me know. (pretty sure I remember where I put it )
