hey going to be in Disney in Feb for a couple of nights and staying at POR

However we are plan is going for 2 weeks just before Xmas time next year and wondering what hotel is best for a two week stay

I don't really want to do a spilt stay. Rather just unpack once lol. We plan in having the odd morning and afternoon in the resort too

So the choice is any mod hotel or with a push we might be able to afford AKL (how much nicer is that delux resort )

Let me no what u would do

Thanks

Have stayed at both and love them both. They each serve a different purpose. AKL is an experience like none other and definitely worth a stay at least once. Coronado treated us very well. It was nice and quiet at the room we had and loved it. That being said, if I could afford AKL over a moderate, I would take it in a second. There's nothing like one big hotel surrounded by the beautiful landscapes and animals along with the peace and quiet.

AKL is a very nice resort to spend quality time at. Unlike a mod, the upgrade you get at a Deluxe would be interior hallways, and a balcony/patio. AKL is very removed from the world, and has truly splendid holiday decor -- much more lavish than you would find at a moderate.

Given how busy the holiday weeks are, AKL makes a really good retreat from the craziness.

There is no comparison. AKL is out-of-this-world themed, with so many details. It really is amazing. The only thing that prevents us (and probably most others) from visiting more often is the distance from everything else. Imagine the demand if AKL were on the monorail?!

Mods are motels with theming - some have very nice theming, but still. I recommend you check out the various resort youtube videos to see which you prefer.

I might be biased because AKL has such a special place in my heart, but it's the one resort on property that I really feel is completely a destination unto itself. I would gladly spend a week there without even going near a Disney park.

I would go with the deluxe resort. AKL is wonderful! it is nicer to stay in a deluxe, IMO, but it is close. The second choice of CSR BC is also great. If it is easier on the budget, you might enjoy staying here even more than AKL. Extra spending money is very nice to have in WDW!

AKL. I would always choose deluxe over moderate if I could afford it. Food options, interior hallways, having a balcony/patio, better transportation, and the theming of deluxe resorts are some of the major things that make them so much nicer than a moderate.

It's been a dream of mine to stay at AKL since it first opened. I will someday! At the moment being on the monorail or at an Epcot resort is winning over due to ease of transportation alone.

As long as the price difference isn't a make it or break it for you, AKL for two weeks sounds amazing!

I agree with all of the above :thumbsup2.

No comparison. I stay moderate (POFQ) when I do solo trips, and it's fine - perfectly lovely.
But we own DVC at AKL and stay there once a year - it's on a much higher level. I could live in the bathroom at the pool... The 3 TS restaurants are among the best in Disney, the Savannah is something you can't get anywhere else ... The lobby is vast and gorgeous ...
Just no comparison.

Sounds really good

We won't be able to afford the Savannah view though as much as I would love to :(

Honestly, for 2 weeks I'd stick with POR. My WDW trip was only 2 days and we chose AKL over POFQ. It was a bucket list resort and I would have regretted it if I hadn't stayed there but it is just so far out there. Now, I didn't have much downtime at AKL to enjoy the facilities and on the bright side it sounds like you will have the downtime to enjoy the resort. I say mod because after 2 days the distance to everything was driving me a bit bonkers. Transportation always took so much time (AK not withstanding as that is close). It was a beautiful resort and awesome to experience and I would go back for a couple days if I were doing AK and if I had some downtime to spend at the pool and wandering the resort but staying for 2 weeks at WDW I would really want to be closer to all the action.

Hmmm. How long does it take to get to the parks ?

Does anyone else think 2 weeks at AKL is too long and I should go for a mod instead

It takes about 15-20 mins on the bus to MK. This does not count how much time you spend waiting for bus. Of course, CBR, POR, POFQ, CSR have their internal stops that you need to consider as well.

If the price difference was not prohibitive I would always pick AKL. If there was free dining or something else at the mod that made it worthwhile I'd maybe consider it.

The last time we chose a mod we stayed at CSR and POR right before that. Both times we were placed about as far from the main building as possible. It took forever to refill mugs, walk to pool, etc. AKL you take the elevator down and a short walk later you are wherever you need to be. Raining outside? You never get wet.

Personally we like splits and 2 weeks is too long to stay anywhere. :)

Do u not get free dinning at AKL and what are the resorts normally not included in the free dinning

In my experience, free dining and deluxe resorts are not a good combo. But we bought DVC long ago so I don't really keep up with free dining anymore.

The way it worked then is that when they offered free dining, you paid full rack rate for the room. With a mod that's not so bad, but with a deluxe you'd be better off with the 30% room only rate. This is one of those things where you have to do the math to determine the best way.
