Mock Orange

I planted a Mock Orange about 3 years ago...it bloomed that 1st year and not last year at all. Soooo I pruned it last Fall and I just noticed it is covered I mean COVERED with small black insects everywhere! On the stems, leaves and what looked like WERE to be blooms ! Grrrrr...I have sprayed with 'Trounce' that I bought from Sheridan Nurseries..anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!!

Sounds like Aphids. Is there a sticky substance on the leaves? You can try using the hose to spray them off, but you may have to use some insectical spray. Try End all II. I just had the same problem with my honeysuckle vine. Hope it doesn't spread. I just put in a new double mock orange.

This is a double mock orange too...the bugs are so small it's hard to tell if the black is sticky stuff or just SO many bugs! Yuck. I took a cutting with them to the garden centre yesterday they told me to hose off also (I did-they didn't budge) and try Trounce again. I did--I will look in a minute and see if that helped. Failing that--they told me all the for sure treatments are no longer for sale here soooo I should buy some LadyBugs..(they are out of stock-will call this week) or some Praying Mantis These are supposedly the best options! I, on the other hand, might have to move tho! LOL...

These bugs only attach themselves to the new growth,,they said that is because that is the sweetest part. Ick.

It couldn't hurt to put some dishwashing soap into the bottom of a plant sprayer, then add water to the top of the spray bottle. Give the bottle a good shake, then pray your plants with the soapy mixture making sure that you get all those suckers. The soapy water coats their pores and suffocates them. Just make sure not to saturate your plant too heavily, only spraying the infected areas of the plant. Spray once a week until they get the message and "BUG" off. Hopes that this helps you out. I get aphids on my roses every year, and this the only way I've found to get rid of them.

well- I guess I will be trying the soapy water as they are still there and some fly too...not sure I am up for the Praying Mantis thing eeeewwww.....

W get them every year, I use house and garden raid, it ususally helps. They are such a nuiscance.
