My husband has a foot/ankle injury and we may need to rent a mobility scooter for him to get around. We're staying at the Grand Californian and ideally we'd like it to be picked up and dropped off. Any recommendations for companies with rentals that are reasonably priced?

I've used Deckert's. They deliver and pick up. Price seemed reasonable to me.
They do not have a website but here's the number (714) 542-5607

Give them a call.

We also used Deckerts over our last couple family trips for one member, but honestly we didn't pick Deckerts intentionally, it just happened. We arranged for it when we arrived at the GCH Club Level with the concierge each time and they gave us the Deckerts info to arrange payment and then he went down the elevator & picked up a scooter from bell services right away and dropped it off at the end of our trip. Never had any issues with the scooters & being able to pick-up & drop-off with bell service was great. (I don't remember the pricing, sorry.)

Deckerts sounds great, though now my husband is thinking of just taking his cane instead, since he thinks the biggest problem will be with painful swelling when he waits in line and less with walking. I guess we'll find out -- we'll be there Thursday!

Ack! Well, just so you know & are prepped when he needs the scooter it's a great option for this problem. My father has a similar (although permanent) issue & halfway through one of our trips felt too bad to go to EMH, he met us in the park riding up on an ECV. They can definitely help you out in the middle of a trip! Which he'll prob need eventually, there are so many lines at DLR it boggles the mind: security- which is getting better recently- park entry, food, shows and obviously rides.

I hope you have a wonderful time & he has a speedy recovery!

FYI, he will not qualify for a disability pass since a wheelchair will address his problems. I know you didn't ask, just telling you in case that comes up so you can save yourself the time waiting at guest services. The ECV would qualify to be issued wheelchair return times at rides that won't accommodate wheelchairs in the line (Indy, Pirates, etc. in Disneyland, DCA was built wheelchair accessible).

Oh interesting, I wouldn't have thought the wheelchair would solve his problem since you have to park the wheelchair or scooter and then go stand in the queue and his problem is mostly with standing in line.

For the rides where the queue can’t accommodate an ECV, you go to the designated handicapped entrance, usually the exit, and they will give you a return time card. Kind of like a fastpass. Just go back there at the set time and you board the ride at that location after parking your ECV. I’ll be doing this in a little over four weeks.

It's like PP said, you take it into the line with you! Really, a great solution. If it won't fit, return time.

We have this issue on top of issues in our group that require a DAS so over the years I got a lot of experience with someone who did cane/stand in short lines route with a DAS and its predecessors. It never ended well, he was a mess by the end of our trips & we spent a lot of time worrying about him because we could still end up standing in 15 min FP lines, people gridlock, waiting for the next train because the first one filled up. (We kept going back because he too loves DLR.) The day he got so bad he absolutely required the ECV changed all that. It was a huge burden off us knowing that he was ok when we had to stand somewhere and it worked so well for him he has never visited a park without renting an ECV again. The ECV was a much better fit for that problem than the DAS ever was. Good luck with your decisions!

I have a bad ankle, the result of a tri-malleolar fracture. My personal experience is that, yes, it's not walking it's standing that cause me pain and swelling. That and stairs (plus it gives out so I'm prone to falling).

My advice (depending on the type of injury) and what I do, is to have him take Ibuprofen upon waking and every 4 hours through the day, regardless of how the ankle feels. If he wants to add any pain meds to that, do so. Mine zones me out so I usually don't. Whenever he's sitting rotate his foot/ankle. I also wear a light brace that provides support and I never take it off. It seems to not only provide some comfort and support, it also helps prevent swelling. When he gets back to the room at night, elevate the ankle and ice that puppy down (10 mins on, 10 mins off for 30-45 mins), take more Ibuprofen and pain meds.

If you normally do a mid-day break, ice it then too.

I've done 6 days straight this way with minimal swelling or stiffness at the end of the trip.

Okay so, after watching some of the Disneyland vlogs, my husband requested a scooter. I'll give Deckerts a call tomorrow and hope they have something available for Friday! Thanks all, hopefully we can minimize the foot misery for this trip.

You shouldn’t have a problem getting one. I believe they keep some at DLH and GCH. I hurt my foot on our last trip and had to rent one. They told me to head down to the bell desk and give them my name and room number.
