Mobility scooter and Disney bus incident...

In your opinion, what or how do you think the driver could have handled it better 🤔?
Honestly (IMO) just communication.

The driver when arriving could have clairified whether the passenger needed to be seated.

The driver also missed an opportunity once the passenger had boarded to communicate with words and offer for him to get off if standing wasn’t possible.

The driver is the one who understands what the driver needs to accomplish and the rules they’re given to work within. Passengers are much more understanding when they know the *why* .

All very valid points. A couple of things to consider. Disney is onboarding a lot of new drivers coming from a vast array occupations, most of which do not require Dale Carnegie skills. Additionally, for many of them English may be their 2nd or even 3rd language. It may be intimidating for them to approach a Guest for these issues. That aside, nothing should ever excuse rude behavior on the part of a WDW driver.

Speaking for myself only, I don't care where a driver worked before, or where they lived, were born, what language(s) they speak, or anything else.

What I *need* from my Disney Bus Drivers is very simple: I need them to be patient & compassionate. And I need them to be safe & careful. Everything else is a bonus.

Completely agree. I think recognizing that few, if any bus drivers are mind/intention readers and the best practice is simply make your presence known - have your scooter beneath you which makes it 100% obvious you're wanting to go aboard with your scooter. The personal life and origination of the driver is completely irrelevant to recognizing unclear intentions. Drivers are also looking to the proper location of ECV/wheelchair users waiting in the designated spot at any given pick up point - this can be confusing for guests - so that's another thing to consider - are you in the correct location. It's 100% visual clues.

Thank you again to all, I really appreciate the help and information. Lessons learned for sure.
I fold up the scooter to be helpful. It takes up less space on the bus and saves time for everyone waiting. It's also less humiliating for me to not have to drive the scooter up there and sit in it while everyone waits and watches.
Because your scooter weighs 60 lb, that would be difficult to carry it on the bus. So actually driving your scooter onto the bus would be so much easier for everyone. I can only assume the driver thought you might be faking your disability to get on before the others. IMO, he was a jerk. Glad you’ll making it easier for yourself and your family in the future.
