When we go to the parks DH & I may split up with the kids and go in opposite directions. If i need to call or text his mobile do i just use the 07.......number as if i would in this country? Also the same question if one of us is calling from the hotel land line to the mobile in the U.S. TIA:)

Somebody may correct me, but you replace the first 0 of the phone number to either +44 or 0044. So if it began 07.... it would now be +447..... or 00447.....

You can change it in your phone now & it should still work fine as a check.

Don't use 00 - that will only work in the UK. International prefix in the USA is 011 (if you're dialling from a US phone, you'd do 011-44-7xxx-xxxxxx). However, just use the "+" - this is standard in the mobile world for the local international call prefix. I've got all the UK numbers in my phone prefixed with +44, as that will work wherever you are in the world (UK included).

Oh, and bear in mind it is VERY pricey to call a UK mobile from a UK mobile in the states. You'll probably be paying >£1/min to call, and he'll ALSO be paying about 90p/min to receive. Depends on your network. Texts will probably be about 60p (30p send+30p receive). Again depending on your network.

what PP said is correct

If your phone number reads 07123456... your international phone number is (for the UK) +447123456
you take out the leading 0 and add + and the international code for your country

you can enter phone numbers with this format in your mobile phone, and you'll have nothing more to do when you're abroad, since it will already be configured for international calls.

Just make sure that every phone plan in your party has the international access (some plans do not allow you to use your phone abroad)
you may also want to check the applicable charges for data usage while roaming, to avoid expensive fees in case you access the internet or if your phone uses data transfer for some reason.

Cool, I didn't know that. Thanks for correcting. :thumbsup2
