MNSSHP - too scary for little ones?

My family and I will be at Disney at the end of September during the MNSSHP. We were there during it last year too, but didn't go due to the ages of the kids - 4, 3 and 5 months.

This year they will be 6, 4 and 1. Do you think that it's a good deal for us? Are there lots of scary characters or it is pretty tame? I think they would love the trick-or-treating part but don't want to carry my 42 lbs. 4 year old around all night.

What do you think? :confused3

Thanks!

My dd did her first MNSSHP when she was 2 and loved it! This year my sister is taking her ds for his first trip. He will be almost 1, and they are doing the party. It's not scary, but is supposed to be a little spooky. They have the "ghosts" from the HM in the parade, for example. My dd took it all in stride, but you know your kids best! Have a great vacation!

My 3 year old did not find it scary at all (well, except the end of the night fireworks and that is just becasue she just did not like fireworks anywhere or anytime). We also did not watch the parade and I think from some descriptions there may have been some scarier elements (headless horseman and the villians) but I cannot speak with any authority on that. There was some spookier type decorations (giant blow up spider on the side of a building) but they were obviously fake/cartooney and they did not bother my 3 year old. It really was a fun evening for the entire family...my older kids got to ride Space Mountian 5 times in a row...just getting off and going through the line and getting back on! I would say go for it!!

We love MNSSHP...my niece (almost 2 at the time) went with us a few years back and was fine. The only thing I would worry about is the parade...most of it isn't scary and it, of course, ends on a high-note, but the HM float and the gravediggers could be scary to kids. This is, however, a very small portion of the parade. You could prepare your kids ahead of time or even skip the parade. (Don't skip the fireworks, though...they are AMAZING!) The trick or treating is fun for the kids and if your kids are into characters, they are everywhere. There is also free face painting (at least in 2003 and in 2005, when we went) and stroller rental is free that night (Yeah!). This past year they had "Stitch's dance party". That was really neat...the kids got to dance to oldies and the characters came out and danced around as well. My daughter still talks about her dance with Pluto...and she is 11!

Took 4 kids in 2004 they were 21/2 to 5 and they all loved it.

My DD went to her first MNSSHP last year when she was 3 1/2 and she loved it. We are going during MNSHHP time again this year and she picked attending the party over adding the water park option on to our tickets.

My DD's love this...my 2yo loved it last year until she fell asleep! It's very tame...hence the name" Mickey's NOT SO SCARY Halloween Party :)

Its tame, but we didn't find it a good value. My kids are older, but have never been nappers. So the seven pm start time was late. By the time the parade was over and the first fireworks started, we were waking near sleeping kids. Its not a popular opinion around here, but I don't know we will do this until they are old enough to want to ride the mountains until 10pm. (That WAS a good deal, my son rode BTMRR three times in ten or fifteen minutes - no lines). The trick or treating wasn't much....

And while what Disney provides isn't scary, some of the kids (particularly boys of the eight-ten age) wear some frightening costumes.

MNSSHP is one of our favorite events! We took my DD (age 3) last year & she loved every miniyte of it. The parade was the best...it's all pretty mild on the scary factor...

One bit of advice...if your little ones don't like fireworks, Do NOT end up in Fantasyland when they go off! We were on Dumbo when they started and I swear it was like we could've reached out & touched them! My DD loved that but our friends' little boy was completely freaked out.

I think the party is soo worth it...and don't miss out on the candy...adults can get in on the sweet action as well!

Have fun!
