In a few days my DW DS 5 and my DD3 are going to attend MNSSHP for the first time. We are seasoned Disney goers but have never done Halloween there. What is the best strategy? Is there a best place to trick-or-treat? Is it worth trying to hunt down specific charaters are ride the rides during the party? Is ther something we should be sure to not miss? Should we just lay back and go with the flow? I usually try to have a plan of attack but I'm not sure what to expect.

Are you a Tour Guide Mike subscriber? He has an article on getting the most from MNSSHP.

We went for the first time last year! We really enjoyed it, here are the tips that we found here at the Dis that we found useful for us(kids were 7, 4, and 2 at the time) Do watch the parade! The Headless Horseman is a really cool must see...but have your camera ready b/c he goes by very fast! We were at the begining of the parade up near Splash Mountain. The fireworks are a must see too!! We skipped most of the trick-or-treating b/c the lines were 20mins long for candy. THe CMs were the ones handing it out where we saw. We could walk onto most rides!! The lines for certain characters were short and others way too long. I found it went in waves for the crowds. The shortest Trick or Treat line was near the Buzz Lightyear ride. Best wishes for a Magical trip!!:wizard:

We just did the party Sun night. You will be able to enter at 4pm. I would be there at that time. That way you will have plenty of time to ride some rides and have dinner before the party starts. You can change into costumes at whatever time. We saw plenty of kids dressed already by 5pm. This party we went to had very low crowds. It was not sold out by a long shot. The wait times were 10-15 mins on everything, even at 4:30pm. It was such great weather and low crowds we just felt so lucky! Cindy's coach was available for pictures by about 6pm. The line was long then so we skipped it and returned at around 10:30pm and had a 10min wait. We saw the first parade at 8:30pm and got a spot an hour before in front of Tony's, it was a great location. Then we had a snack at Casey's and took our spot on Main St. for Hallowishes. Then we went trick or treating and the lines moved quickly and we got a ton of candy. We went on some rides and had a really great time. Be sure not to miss the dance parties for the kids. One is over behind Dumbo, the other in Cosmic Rays and they looked like so much fun and kids were having a blast. There were characters there too. We did notice a lot of characters but it was just DH and I so we didn't go see any. The lines did look long but moved quickly.

We went last year and had a blast. We are headed back on Friday and doing MNSSHP on 10/23. Ride lines are usually very short. Definately ride the ones' that usually have the long lines(Peter Pan, Small World). Best place we found to trick-or-treat was the walking path from Toontown to Space Mountain. You get to see alot of characters u won't normally see.(mostly Alice in Wonderland). Hope this helps and have fun.

We just went the end of sept/first of October. Our parties were not crowded. I would recommend getting there at 4pm with kids your age. You can go into Fantasyland and try to do some of those rides. That said, you won't be able to do the dance party until after the start of the Halloween Party so you might have to come back if you want to do this. We didn't as my DS9 would rather ride space mountain (not me but ....). We found that these ride lines in Fantasyland were pretty steady until after 10pm or so. Then they really lighten up. Since we are from the West Coast we did MNSSHP the first part of our trip so we were still on Pacific time. This let us do the entire party as when it closed at midnight was really only 9pm for us. It worked.

I would definitely do the parade. We watched from over by Space Mountain for the first parade. It was good as it started there and many wanted to be on main street. If you get there early to get a spot often they have CMs along the parade route with hula hoops, etc. It is fun to watch. Plus, the parade ends here first and you can head around the back end of the park by Thunder Mt. to get away from the crowds and start on some rides.

Trick or Treating they have set up in specific areas. I would definitely go back to Toon Town. Get you picture taken for photopass at the entrance of Toon Town. It is cute. Then you can do Toon Town and finish up by trick or treating. This path will take you alongside the back of the park where they have trick or treat stations set up with CMs dressed up like Alice in Wonderland characters. It is fun. Plus it is a concentrated area for trick or treat. Feels more like the old fashion door to door trick or treating. You come out by Space Mt. Then you can head over to Buzz Lightyear and do that ride. There is another station in front of Carousel of Progress which you can go through. Keep in mind that when we went there were seldom long lines. From here you might want to head over to adventureland and ride Alladin carpets, pirates, etc. where you will find a couple more stations. Be sure to get a map as they outline on that map specifically where the trick or treat areas are - they will also give you bags to trick or treat with - be sure that adults take the bags, too. You are included!

The fireworks are not to be missed. You can see them well from Fantasyland but you miss the silhouettes on the castle. Watching in Fantasyland allowed us to jump right on Pooh and a couple other rides. Some were closed, though, due to the fireworks and it takes a bit to get them opened back up. The second party we went to we were in front of the castle and that was great as we saw the whole show. As you face the castle, if you get over to the left of it a bit the trees will not block your view of the fireworks. There are spots on main street area that trees have grown and the angle to watch fireworks is not the best. Be sure to keep that in mind when picking a spot.

Post any specific questions and we will try to answer.

We do like main street but it is hard to get those and takes a lot of patience in getting there early.

We also like back by Frontierland in front of the merchantile shop and Country Bear Jamboree. There is a little ledge there from the wood floor and you can sit on that with the kids in front of you to watch the parade. Lots of food in the near vicinity.

Our other spot is over by the President's exhibit (can't remember exactly) but right before the parade goes over the bridge.
