MNSSHP as a first Disney experience?

I've never been to Disney World. Planning a Universal trip 2019 & Disney 2020. Do you guys think it is worthwhile to do MNSSHP for a night during the Universal trip? Or would that not really allow me to experience the park in a reasonable way for the first time?

It is 2 adults, my friend has been to Disney but over a decade ago. We'd be particularly interested in the Sanderson sisters show :)

You can do a lot during a Halloween party. My only concern is that once you've seen *that* parade, no other parade will impress you ever again. (unless the Main St. Electrical comes back!)

I was not expecting to like the Sanderson show, but it was pretty darn good.

If it is a low crowd night, it would be a great way to see Disney. I find I can get a lot of rides in that night as well as the fireworks and usually a parade. Just understand the tone is very different from HHN, if you are doing that as well. And you might end up enjoying the trick or treating more than you expect (I have been with other adults and one of them really got into it - too funny). Also, it may spoil you for y our 2020 trip. My first adult trip to MK was a MNSSHP, I went back later in the week and was horrified by how crowded it was.

Cool, that sounds encouraging!

Yes, HHN is also the plan and I am looking forward to two very different Halloween experiences.

It's definitely a different experience than daytime in the parks--it'll spoil you in some ways, but you'll also be limited in other ways. Not all of the attractions are open during MNSSHP, nor all of the dining locations. As previously alluded, it has (what I think is) the best parade in WDW, and the crowds will be much lower, so if you want to spend your time on the attractions you'll shoot right through the queues. When we did it in 2015 we rode a couple rides, saw all the shows, saw the parade, and the night flew right by without us ever having time for any of the character meets, so be prepared for a fast-paced night.

Honestly, I'd say go for it; just understand that when you do a regular visit in 2020 it's going to have a different feel.

I am going to go against the crowd here - I would not go to MNSSHP as your first Disney experience. Part of the beauty of the Magic Kingdom is the intricate detail including the music specialized for each area of the park. Don't get me wrong, I love MNSSHP, but I think it is so important to see the Magic Kingdom in all its original glory first. The party has different lighting, music and some very important attractions like CoP aren't open.
