MNSSHP 2016

Unfortunately disney does not release dates until the summer. I think it's safe to say that there will be a party the last friday of September if you look at historic party dates. Other than that it is unpredictable if there will any other dates added to September or not.

Does anyone know if the new park policies about costumes will affect adults wearing costumes to the party this year? I haven't heard much about it and that is the only thing standing in between our "no go" to Disney World in October.

You should email guest relations and see what they say. Someone on the WDW side emailed and was told no adult costumes at the party. But I would imagine there's a high probability this will be an evolving policy, so might change over time.

I still don't believe they won't lose a substantial amount of ticket sales if they stick with it. The costumes were just such a big piece of the experience.

I contacted guest services and they replied with this, "At this time our policy is that anyone over the age of 14 is not allowed to wear costumes in our Theme Parks. That includes any special events as well." I guess that means no Disney World in October for my family. :confused3

It takes October off the table for our family as well. Honestly MHP was lacking something already by not having a Halloween parade. I remember commenting to my daughter last year (Our first DLR Halloween visit) that all the costumes were so cool it was almost as good as a parade. Seriously, I just can't see that party being half as fun or interesting without all the cool costumes.

That policy change is really surprising to me, and I do agree that it will affect attendance negatively (maybe that's not a bad thing though considering the surge in popularity the last couple of years?). Come on, it's a Halloween party. A big part of the appeal is dressing in costume, and families in particular really get into the group costume thing. We love to see what creative families dress up as! Also, I know at Disneyland the Halloween parties are a big deal for all of the locals and dressing up is why they go. Not sure that the draw will be there if adults can't dress up.

So is it a safety concern? Plus are the powers at be going to be able to effectively communicate the new restriction?

In the past, it's always said that costumes are allowed on the ticket itself under the rules and regulations section. So I would expect that is where they'll note the restriction if it's still in place at that point.

Makes sense. Just questioning whether or not that will be effective since costumes for all who want to partake has been the thing to do at MHPs for So Cal peeps since it started. It's gained in popularity so drastically in the last couple of years that I'm wondering if it's reasonable to go back on that particular component at this point. We shall see!

We are traveling all the way from New Zealand to go to Disneyland in late September to see all the Halloween decorations and experience the whole Halloween vibe. Halloween isn't really celebrated over here, not to the extent it is in the US anyway and we were really looking forward to dressing up as part of the experience. Thankfully our costumes are normal looking clothes anyway so we will be able to get away with it, but it will take away from the party atmosphere if over 14 year olds aren't allowed to dress up :(
