MNSSHP 2006, Ready to start planning!

I finally ordered my tickets today for Oct. 30th. It's the first non-refundable purchase I've made for our trip. I'm really excited! Of course I still can't shake the thought of buying tickets for the 31st as well-but probably too much for our family with dd 4 and ds 17mo. Anyone think I should buy for the 31st? :)

I just realized that some of the dates for the party fall during our trip in September. I'm interested in going, but I was wondering if you have to wear costumes. It's just that I know my mom would like to go, but she wouldn't want to wear a costume.

Also, where can I find info for times for the events this year? Thanks! As I said, I just now found this out.

Costumes are not required...people just wear them because they want to (and Disney allows them to). The times are 7pm to 12am.

I just realized yesterday that there was an MNSSHP on Sept. 15th--which is during our trip for my 30th birthday. I am SO excited--I am beside myself!!! I bugged DH for hours last night about costume ideas!! I found some Chip & Dale pajamas today (I love C & D), so I think I might wear that--comfy and light!!

I definitely do not want to miss the Headless Horseman (hoping for no rain), and I want to see the villains (hopefully, lots of pics!!). Is it pretty easy to find the characters after the 1st parade and Hallowishes? Where is the best place to watch the parade--we typically watch the parades (MK parade, Spectro, MVMCP) from Main Street, but would that make it difficult to get back into the characters & rides?

Thanks for all of your help!! Also, I would love to see pics of any DIS-ers in costume to get ideas!

is this MNSSHP party at the MK only - what time does it start? Trying to help friends who will be there- what goes on at party?

Yes, it's held at MK after the park officially closes. It's 7:00p to Midnight.

It's riding rides, trick or treating, special Halloween parade and fireworks and other fun things.

It's all decked out in Halloween decorations and music. It's great!

what time is parade and the fireworks? does Disney provide treat bags? Does this make parks more crowded during the days-friends will be there 10/13-10/16?

The fireworks are always at 9:15p.

The parade was 8:00p and 10:00p last year (can vary by 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour from year to year)

Yes, they provides trick or treat bags as you enter the park.

No, I've never noticed the park being more crowded during the day on the day of a party.

I finally bought the black athletic shorts to complete our costumes as basketball players. My sis is not to thrilled about wearing them, but she agreed! :cool1: I do have to cancel our plans for Chef Mickey's on that night, she refuses to have a group picture taken in our costumes. :sad1: I purchased some iron-on paper from our local craft store, and have created what will be the top half of our costume, which will go on white t-shirts. Now I need to purchase some white and black tube socks, and a few sweat bands, and we will be all set!

I finally ordered my kids halloween costumes!!!!! I know, I still have two months to go, but hey, I am anxious. I would have ordered them waaaaay back in March if I could have. So, I finally found the tinkerbell/"woodland fairy" costume for my dd and the "right" peter pan costume. Almost down to the two month mark!!!!! Yippeeeeee

FINALLY -- we are "officially" below the two month mark!!!!!! So, in honor of that, I finally went to the base today and bought our 5 day hopper passes. I really was going to wait until next week, but when I called today to get the prices, I was able to get them with an extra savings if I bought them by Saturday, because on Monday, the prices were going up -- alot. I still cant beleive that the tickets are going up again, and so much. I also just recieved the kids costumes in the mail this morning!!! It seems like the pixie dust has started already.........lets hope in continues. Ok, rambling session done.

Oh man, I guess I need to start cutting out my younger DD's Jack Sparrow costume. :( I'm not looking forward to this, but I'll try. Worst case scenario, I can always drive to the Disney Store in Atlanta and buy the dang thing!

yeah. I bought a few accessories for my DD5's "Jasmine" costume...some jewelry and a crown from Claire's this afternoon. DS is done....Yoda. I got him his "Yoda Light Saber" from Walmart a few weeks back. Good thing DH and I are not dressing up or this might cost us a small fortune!

from one sewer to another......Start Cutting!!!!!!
I Always wait until the last minute!!! I used to make all my girls' costumes.
One of my students also loves to sew and whenever one of us has a project going we're constantly nagging the other (which doesn't sound nice, but when you have someone nipping at your tail, you get moving!)
I'm sure you'll do an awesome job...Don't go to the Disney Store, just start cutting!

HAs everyone been keeping up with the newest development about MNSSHP? It is rumored that they are allowing non-ticket holders to stay in the park this year.

I sewed a jack costume for my son last year for halloween and was so proud/happy I did!

It will look so much better then anything you can get in a store, but you probably already know that.

Another thing to factor in, most kid's halloween costumes are made of polyester and other itchy/cheap fabrics. When you make it yourself you can make it out of cotton and stuff, much more breathable and bearable in Florida! (trust me, I live here)

The hardest and worst part is the cutting (in my opinion) so the sooner you get that done the better!

I know the park doesn't close to day guests until 7:00 this year, but I haven't heard that they'll allow non-ticketed guests to remain all night. I can't imagine they would allow them to stay indefinitely.

My problem is that I can't find a kids "Jack Sparrow" type pattern. Everything in boys 7-16 range doesn't look "jackish" enough. I bought a girls pirate pattern (Simplicity 4469) and a mens Jack (Simplicity 4923). The mens is XS, S & M, I figured I could always cut it down from the small size. I have an easy girls pants pattern (actually pajama pants with a drawstring waist), figure I can make a simple tunic and sash. She really wants a jacket, but in that Florida heat??? We already have some of the accessories, so you're right, I need to start cutting. If I had been smart I would have went to Hancock fabrics today for the one day sale. My biggest fear is making t too early and her having a growth spurt. That happened last year, she insisted on getting the Pocahontas costume at TDS in ATL in August, by October the boots were a little tight. :rolleyes1

Where did you find a pattern? I've poured over the pattern books at our fabric stores. Last year we bought her Pocahontas costume from TDS (not bad quality wise) but I made her a cape from tan ultrasuede (looked like buckskin) with a fake fur collar. I just winged it, but she was so proud of that cape you would have thought it cost $100 instead of <$15 for the materials. I made her headdress from the feathers by the yard, that ran me ~$25 (they're not cheap!) but she was thrilled with it too. I know that even if it's not perfect she'll enjoy it. My older DD is another story. We're in the awkward age (11) and very self conscious. Plus, she chages her mind daily. I'm holding off as long as possible for her too.
