Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I don't have time to do a search right now (I've probably only got a few more minutes of naptime here! ;) )

Anyway, I'm figuring it's still going to be pretty hot in October (the 6th) and I'm thinking my 6 yo will be waaaaayyy to hot in a costume. What do most people do about costumes for their kids? Do they wear them for a little while (to get some cute pics) and then change into regular clothes? Or does the heat seem to bother the kids? I would love for him to go in costume, but I don't want him to have a heat stroke! :rotfl: TIA-Dana

We went to MNSSHP in late October one year. While the days were still fairly warm, the nights cooled to down to upper 50's by then. Since MNSSHP occured mostly after dark, heat was not a factor, as my DD wore her Snow White costume over her shorts and t-shirt.

I guess it depends on what kind of costume you're considering.

Our kids have never worn costumes during the day, but have worn costumes at MNSSHP a couple times on pretty warm evenings without much trouble.

Their costumes were pretty light weight and didn't cover their faces; Belle, Jasmine, Buzz Lightyear, and they were able to wear them for several hours with no complaints!

I'm having a tough time with the costume decision myself. DD5 and I are trying to think of a costume that will be cool, comfortable, and easy to move around in at the parks. I also want something unique, not just a costume I can get at the Disney store. We may end up forgoing costumes all together and just wear Halloween t-shirts and shorts. It will just depend on the weather I guess.

I am going on 9/30 and my kids (5 & 6)will be in thier PJ's. The PJ's are shots and Tshirt of the incredibles. That way they will stay comfortable and if they crash, they are already set for bed!

I am now debating this too. I got some costumes last year from the Disney store when they were on clearance. Bought them a size larger so they could wear them this year and oldest ds is Shang and youngest will be Prince Phillip. So not sure how hot they will be.

I figure I will bring them along just in case, but if it is to hot I am trying to think of an alternative.

we went last year on the 12th. As someone posted the nights do cool down some. Whatever you decide don't forget the BUG SPRAY, it was definatelly needed. We did not have it and the mosquitoes had a feast on my ankles

We are planning on packing "easy" costumes. Squares of light fabric with head holes and arm holes (ponchos - if you will). Black with jagged edges makes a witch. Brown with a little eyeliner for whiskers and a nose and the proper headband - a puppy or a cat. Green with the sparkly head bobbers - alien.

Not elaborate, but light, easy to pack, and can be carried around all day.

DS is going as the bell hop from the TOT and DD will be Jasmine

I bought DS the most fabulous pirate costume, but I am also worried about the heat.

The costume is pants (sort of like those flame-resistant pajamas), a long sleeve shirt (light weight fabric), and vest, a sash, a head wrap thing, foam shoe covers that look like boots, and an eye patch. We are leaving the dagger at home. ;)

When we tried the costume on it fit over his shirt and shorts, so I will put him in a black T-shirt and shorts and he can wear the pirate accessories if it is brutally hot. The rest of the costume can go in the backpack and we can just have him put it on for a few pictures. If it's not roasting hot he can wear the pants and shirt over his clothes or we can put his clothes in the backpack.

DH and I will just wear Halloween T's and shorts or jeans.

Thanks for the replies. My ds will probably want to be something like a Power Ranger :earseek: , and I know that will be too hot. Maybe I find some cute Halloween t-shirts for the whole family to wear!

I am undecided on the costume thing to. I would love to do custumes, but I dont know if they will be to much trouble. I may make us some neat Halloween t-shirts.

The Pj idea is a very good idea. We may do that.

When my DD and I went to MNSSHP a few years ago, she went as a cowgirl-blue jeans, white short sleeve shirt, bandana, and a vest I quickly made and brought from home. We bought her a cowgirl hat in WDW and had her name stitched on it. She was thrilled, because during the parade, Jessie from Toy Story 2 waved at her!

This costume was great because it was all normal clothing, and the vest was easily stuffed into my bag when she got hot.

We were there on the 8th last year, I had two DD's that were Snow White and Esmerelda. The tempereature was warmer than I had anticipated but not too hot at night. I definitely recommend tennis shoes for the kids, the shoes from the Disney Store, while cute, aren't made for the MK hike. We were in the Disney store in Atlanta about late August/earlySept. to purchase the costumes, they had some cute Halloween t shirts then. DH picked up a Pirates shirt for himself and I wore a little Halloween twin set from Steinmart. By the time we started up Main Street at 7PM my cardigan was off and tied at my waist. I second the bug spray comment, didn't notice that many in the MK during the party but they almost carried my 8 year old off at the beach at the Poly! Someone mentioned the Power Rangers, do they have a long pants pajama set from Disney online? They have a bunch of stuff on clearance right now, maybe someone can luck up. Oh yeah, just got an email for an extra 20% too. Code name EXTRATWENTY.
