MMR vaccine in adults???

Anyone ever get the MMR vaccine as an adult? Did you have any side effects from it?

dh is in the process of getting all his childhood immunizations because chemo and a stem cell transplant wiped them out.
He had no side effects for MMR.

I had one when I was 19, needed it for school. I didn't have any problems at all.

A friend of mine had to get one when she was 23. She didn't have any problems. I don't think her arm was even sore.

I've had the MMR shot a couple extra times, both as a kid and as adult. (Just a PSA - some states are really . . . particular. . . about when you get your shot. I got my MMR a day or two before my first birthday, so every couple of years, the state would say that it did not count, and I had to go get an extra shot.) As far as I know, I never suffered any adverse effects.

I had one at 17. No reaction due to the innoculation itself. But I did pass out due to my needle phobia. That of course sent the entire place into a tail spin--but in the end...my side effects were solely due to my phobia.

If you can avoid those illnesses, I'd say go for it. I totally suffered with MM and R--no vaccine in ancient times. Not fun at all.

It's important to know that the protection wears off over time.

I had an MMR a year before we conceived our first child... so about 18 years ago.

My blood tests at the beginning of this pregnancy revealed that I no longer have immunity from M, M or R. Yikes. I'll get another MMR vaccine after this baby is born.

I had no trouble with the shot, myself. But my first born developed Rubella from the vaccination. He was okay after a while but now it's one of the vaccines that we delay until after baby/toddlerhood.

I think I had to get it again after my 1st son. My arm was sore but I lived to tell the tale

I'm 33 and completely exposed to MMR, since my antibodies have all worn off. I would love to get the shot again, but I had a severe reaction as a child to it (paralyzed, GBS type stuff), and can no longer receive it.

So long as you had no allergic reaction the first time you received it, go ahead and get it, they are very safe. And I'll be envious that you don't have to worry about getting M,M, or R!

I recently had to get the MMR because I never had the mumps vaccine as a child (I actually had the mumps) and I've gone back to college so they said I had to redo the vaccines. My arm got pretty sore and I felt mildly sick for a few days.

I had to get the MMR again about 2 years ago (I was 27) to take some classes at community college since we couldn't find any record of my second set of shots I went all through school and 2 different colleges before this came up so I just ended up getting it, no ill effects

I had it when I was an adult and the only side effect I had was a sore arm.

I had one in my late 20s without any side effect other than the sore arm.

I worked at a commodities exchange (think Trading Places), so every time someone on the floor came down with something strange they would either vaccinate or test the entire building. There was a time we had required TB testing for years.

I had a MMR and Dtap about 18 months ago! I got them the day after my son was born. My blood test showed my MMR had worn off, which I already knew, when I was in High School (18 yrs ago!!!!) my parents got a letter saying I couldn't start my senior year without the shot, I never did get it then. Now I don't have to worry about it if I ever get pregnant again. I would also recommend a Dtap shot if you havn't had one in the last 7 years. It is a tentaus and whooping cough combo shot. Whooping cough is really starting to spread becasue most adults immunites against it are worn off. My son spent three nights in the hospital at three weeks old because he caught whooping cough that my MIL passed on to him. It was very scary and if I do have a second baby I will not let anyone near my newborn if they don't have a booster shot!

I had to get a measles booster when I was in college in the 90's since there were outbreaks on college campuses. It hurt my arm but that was all. I am just old enough that I didn't have the MMR as a baby so I ended up with mumps 3 times! BLECH! Definitely worth it.

I used to work in a hospital and they tested me for immunity. I came up as non immune. As a PP stated, the immunity does wear off. I had it again about 3 years ago at 36 and had no side effects what so ever.

DH had it as an adult with no side effects.
