Hi
We're back home to work and snow, after the warmest MLKjr. weekend that we've ever spent in Florida.
We weren't at DVC, but at Marriott Grande Vista, and although it was a beautiful resort and the studio had real china plates, I'll take the DVC resorts, any of the on site ones any day for the location, location, location. I will work on getting together some sort of "real dishes/cutlery" package to take with me. DH did remark after our only dinner in our room, that it was nice to eat on real dishes...and he'll "support" my search. Sometimes he does roll his eyes
when I try to take things with me.
We have DDE and so we did eat on site in Le Cellier (Friday) and at Tony's (Sunday) and the meals were delicious and delivered in fine fashion by personable waitstaff. We actually made it to Fantasmic after the 5:30 dinner ressie at Le Cellier. We toyed with skipping the cheese soup, but we couldn't resist, we both enjoy it too much. We asked for our check when the entree was delivered...it WAS tight, but we did it. Fantasmic was at 7, it had just begun, but we did get seats. We had come to Le Cellier around 5:10 in hope of being seated a bit early, but no, we were seated at 5:30..still, we watched lots of people get turned away.
I called MS on Saturday to make our December VWL studio ressies, and all went well, after a 25 minute wait!!! I was asked to do the phone survey, and I did mention that the wait time was wholly unacceptable, or whatever the lowest category was. I would have given up, but I wanted to make the Tony's ressie and cancel an Artist Point dinner time that we had initially scheduled for Sunday. The VWL ressie was not day-by-day, but it was 11 months from the final check out date. Another thing I did on Saturday was make 1 Le Cellier seating for each of our 3 trips to Florida during the next 5 months. After seeing all of the people turned away, I/we didn't want to be disappointed. So, I probably used more phone time than usual on Saturday, myself.
Since we weren't staying on site, and we traveled into the parks, it seemed to us that the parks were very crowded, but the parking lots weren't particularly filled. Our biggest "mistake" was going to MK on Sunday to see the parade and Wishes, now they were great, but the fact that it was a late night for Disney resort guests meant that after Wishes, the park just got more crowded and we waited a long time for Buzz Lightyear...but we didn't want to leave right after Wishes, for once DH and I weren't tired!!! These busy long weekend mini vacations take their tolls on our stamina!
I did ask my DH if he would rather get 1 bedrooms more often, to have the amenities, or stick with studios (once we ever get out of the negative point balance that we have) and he says "more vacations." Christmastime/December is his favorite time to visit, but he's still working, so we just can't be there as much then as he would like.
If anyone has a question about Grande Vista, I'll be happy to answer if I can.
