Due to my school district's calendar scheduling, my best laid plans for the 2011-2012 school year have been blown up. I'm trying to be creative with a few trips. My DW and I are considering going Thursday-Monday of MLK weekend 2012. I'm wondering what availability would be now at BLT and what it would look like 7 months out for other resorts. I've checked the boards but there isn't much posted about availability for January 2012. Is it a crazy weekend or not too bad? Anything else that I should know about regarding this time of year (like don't plan to swim in the pool)? Thanks.

We always go over MLK weekend and love it! The crowds are pretty low (definitely busier over Sat and Sun compared to the weekdays), the weather is usually in the 70's and it's a break from nasty winter weather at home. And don't count the pools out, we go swimming every year.

As for availablity, we own at OKW but still managed to get (2) 2 bedrooms for that weekend at our 7 month window at BLT. So it is possible, but when we were there BLT was at its capacity. The key is to call at exactly your 7 month window to set up your resservation. We always make our resservation at our 11 month window for our home resort and then switch, sort of a back up plan.

We did the MLK weekend earlier this year. We had availability just a few months out and were able to make a change at just over 30 days out. We were staying at VWL, our home resort. The crowds were not too bad either. We would love to do it again.

We've been down for the last 4 MLK weekends, kids get a 4 day weekend due to the end of the semester. Weather is always better than NW OH, always manage to get in the pools.

As for DVC, we've booked 2brs at BCV, BWV(BW view) and MK view at BLT. The one year we stayed with our Wyndham points at Bonnet Creek.

We just stayed this past January over MLK Weekend and it was not bad at all. We arrived on 1/16 (Sunday) and stayed until Saturday the 22nd. I thought the crowds were very low, and that there were a couple of days that were ok for the pools, but for the most part the pools were out of the question. We Stayed at AKV and booked a 2br Savannah view at the 7 month mark.

Best of luck! We hope to be back there again this same week in 2012.

I am so glad to hear all the positive reviews about MLK week. We will be arriving on MLK Monday until that Friday and staying at BLT. I was able to get a studio with a Theme Park View and we are all very excited about it :goodvibes, however we own at BLT therefore I called right at the 11 month mark, not sure what is available now. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your help! FYI--I was able to book a BLT Studio MK view for Thursday-Tuesday of MLK weekend. If you have any other thoughts or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!

:woohoo: Woo Hoo for you! Glad it worked out. The only suggestion is to prepare for warm or cold weather. In my case anything is better than Kentucky in January so I am always pleased. :)

One more question about the best date range to travel. I have just a little bit of flexibility. I could go from Wednesday evening, January 11 through Monday afternoon, January 16 or I could go Thursday evening, January 12 through Tuesday afternoon, January 17. I'm guessing the first option would be better so that I would have Thursday-Sunday in the parks instead of that Friday-Monday. Does that make sense? Thanks.

We've been to MK the last 2yrs on MLK day itself(had late flights 6:30ish). No problem getting on Space Mountain multiple times. Ride a few more rides, have lunch at Cosmic Rays, ride a few more, stop at the bakery for the boys to have a last cin. roll.Go

We come in on Thursday nights, pick the youngest up from school and catch a 6:00pm ish down to MCO.

You aren't by chance in Cobb County GA are you? Our school district just voted out our approved calendar for 2011/2012 a few weeks ago. The calendar had been approved 1.5 years ago, so everyone's vacation plans are totally messed up.

They do that to you too?

Our district releases the next year calendar in November than usually "plays" with it before putting the final stamp on in it in March. They're late this year and I've booked a non-DVC trip for NYE weekend based on that calendar.

Everytime I make Xmas/NYE break trips based on the 1st release it must send some sort of signal to mess with it. Had to cancel one 2 yrs ago. :headache:

We're miffed our long MLK weekend is gone for next year, and we've had it for 4 yrs.

Nope. I'm in Minnesota expecting 6 inches of snow tonight.
