MLK Weekend at Universal, Express Pass Needed?

First time and we (2 adults and a 9 yr old) are going to Universal and IOA the weekend of Martin Luther King Day, January 2015.

What are the crowds like, should we get the Express Pass?

Debating staying on property to take advantage of the hour early at Harry Potter too?

Worth the extra money?

Crowds are projected to be heavy..We are going that week and staying onsite

when i went in january this year, ran into a lot of tour groups....

we stayed on site so no big waits for rides.
