MLB Opening Day

The Mets have done one thing that the Yankees can't.

And that's beat the Red Sox (twice.)

xD

BoSox have an amazing bullpen though.

I'm OK with the Mets beating us. My boyfriend roots for the Mets and he got me cheering for them, so I refuse to pick a side when we (rarely) play each other. I also refuse to cheer for a team when we (rarely) play the Braves due to some small bit of hometown allegiance left over from a time I can't remember.

yeah, but red sox fans were never cocky untill '04. I know about 40 Red Sox fans, 30 of them became fans in '04:rolleyes:

You may not have known many where you're from...I can't escape them I know three Yankees fans. Three. Nobody up here likes them, really. And the kids who do cheer for them just because they've got those 26 titles. I can tell those three kids more about the Yankees from rooting against them then they knew when they decided to be Yankees fans. The Yankees are a joke where I live.

I'm still watching .... the Red Sox 8-0 record against the Yankees.

And sweet it is.

Nick Green with the walk-off homer today and Papi with a two-run Monster Slam early in the game.

Somebody had mentioned waaaaaaay back when that one of the reasons Fenway sells out is because it's so small. Tickets to Fenway ain't cheap. For a game against the Yankees they can go for almost $1900. Even for a game against the LA Angels (where tickets in Gen. Admin. Standing Room Only start at $19 for a Wednesday 7:05 game) good seats can be close to $1200 per ticket. Imagine taking a family of four to a game! It's almost cheaper to go to Disney! Yet, we still managed to sell out 500 consecutive home games.

When Nick Green homered I had left the room for a minute and I come back and It's game over, at least I got to see the replay.

Whoa :] you have some nice combacks :] haha :] well, where yer from you may know 3 unserious Yankee fans, but not from where I'm from. Here, yer either a Yankee fan or a RedSox fan :] its probably half and half.

Now, lately the Yankees have been having some issues... how can u loose to the Nationals? And the Marlins? I mean get real. But there's plenty of time.

Oh and wanna know why Yankee seats r sooo expensive? cuz their worth it :] haha :] jk kind of :]

Ahhh I didn't see that until now. I was sitting in 516 in the promenade. Pretty high up but great view. haha small world. Was it your first time there?

edit: just read about Endy Chavez. Torn ACL, might not be able to play until mid 2010 season. He is the reason I fell in love with baseball. I always liked it but the catch in the 06 playoffs changed everything for me. That's a total bummer even though he's not on the Mets.

I feel so bad for Endy.

I hope one day he will be back with the Mets.

Noooo. Red Sox seats are expensive because they're worth it. Yankees seats are expensive because they have to pay for A-Rod's lawyer every time he gets caught cheating (be it at baseball or with another woman).

Im a Yankee fan because the Yankees are just an amazing team and everything about them just has this amazing feel to it. Also, their just a class act, MOST of their players are dignified and respectable. Theres just something about the Yankees that is special.

So, the Yanks have gone on a little losing streak, but its ok. We're still in first for the wild card and I think its just the fact that their in N.L. parks for 9 days.

I love how their going to use the "OMG OUR PITCHERS HAD TO BAT" excuse.

Their playing real baseball. Baseball was never meant to have a DH.

Ok, yeah their playing "real" baseball but either way there not used to having to play without a DH and having to do it for 9 games is hard. Im sure that Jerry Manual would be just as mad if his team had to play 9 games with a DH

Nobody ever said Fenway was cheap, I just said it was small compared to most stadiums. Fenway's seating capacity is alittle under 40,000. If you look at Yankee Games over the past 14 years Im sure they have sold over the Fenway capacity to most games. If you look at the crowd to Yankee night games in April or May (slow times) they still have about 42,000-43,000 people there.

Exactly. The Red Sox are playing their next several games in NL parks and you don't hear us complaining. Well, we've been doing well in NL parks...

We're 2-1 in NL parks and 6-3 against NL teams overall. Our next six games are on the road in NL parks.

Personally, when we've got a pitcher who managed to homer and a few of our current pitchers used to play NL, I feel safe in playing in an NL park. The Red Sox are strategic like that.

Not really. Pitchers aren't the best hitters, so we could get a better hitter in with a DH. So maybe Jerry is kind of happy when we have DH. I'm not sure what he thinks though .

But N.L. teams dont have great players ready to hit. A A.l. will have a good player like Johnny Damon or David Ortiz to D.H. but most N.L. teams only have back up players that probably only hit as good as a pitcher

Jerry Manuel obviously wouldn't mind, but were used to it.

He likes it, but he also doesn't mind having pitches hit. When he managed for the ChiSox he had a DH, but he knows that the game should be played without a DH.

The reason the Yankees despise playing w/o the DH is because unfortunatley they are having guys who are aging and not able to play defense as well. (EX: Jorge Posada, is aging and not able to play D as well, pitchers now prefer pitching to Cervelli, and Hideki Matsui, never plays the outfield anymore, also Johnny Damon, who is unlikely to be resigned by the Yanks next year (his words, not mine) is also better suited for a DH)
