MK - RD to close… are we crazy?

Hi! I’d appreciate some input… we are a group of three families (six adults and six kids ages 8-12), with one of the families making their first trip. We are staying off-site for a week in September, planning for MK Monday, HS Tuesday, rest day Wednesday, AK Thursday, Epcot Friday, and rest day Saturday.

Is it crazy to try and rope drop MK and then stay through the fireworks? We typically stay on-site and leave the parks for a mid-afternoon break, but given our off-site location we are wondering if the travel back and forth might tire us out more than staying at MK. Any tips or insight would be appreciated! Thank you!

We stayed off site, rope dropped the morning at EPCOT, stayed in the park until after we rang in the New Year, managed to get out of the parking lot at 4 in the morning, drove back to the hotel. So we were up about 22 hours and in the park all day. But we had to stay, if we'd left we wouldn't have gotten back in. We paced ourselves, and took lots of rest breaks at the park.

I always think we can do it but we never make it. By 4 pm we are done! But you might have better stamina.

My daughter and I will be there next week and we plan on doing MK at least one day open to close (we have 2 MK park days). I figure if we take plenty of rest/snack breaks we can make it.

Really depends on the group. We do rope drop to close on all four parks, with no down days, every time we go, but that’s just how we like to do it. The last time we took a real break during the day was when my daughter was 2, unless you count maybe leaving the park to hit dinner at a monorail resort.

My family has done it many times with no issue. When we are offsite it is definitely not worth the trip to take a mid-day break from MK when you factor in the time to the TTC, parking, etc. We do like to schedule one TS meal as a break, usually a late lunch/early dinner.

We are adults with no kids and when we visit every few years for a 9 day trip we are pretty much at a park every day from open to close. One night we get back to the room a little earlier when we go to Disney Springs for dinner and other things. We also take a day or 2 for other area attractions where we also spend an entire day. We usually do TS for all 3 meals because of food allergies and find that the time we spend at lunch and dinner is when we relax and recharge.

Can’t report on kids, but my s/o and I who are in our mid-late 20’s now have been doing it for years and we love every second of it! We once were in MK from 7 am to 1 am!
