MK evening, crowd level 9... bad idea?

I thought I had already posted this question, but I guess I forgot to hit "post."

We are arriving at the world on Monday, January 5 and expect to get to MK by 7pm. I booked FP+ for 7DMT, Under the Sea, and Buzz.
Other than that, we just want to spend our first night seeing Celebrate the Magic & Wishes.

My worry is that Touring Plans lists Monday the 5th as a crowd level 9 at MK, and it is also the least recommended park on Easy WDW.

Are we going to be packed in like sardines?? I thought the Monday after New Year's week is when the crowds are supposed to dwindle, but a level 9?? That's a little scary.

Could you book a FP for MSEP and stay for Wishes? That's my plan for a busy day.

I thought about that, but the MSEP viewing area looked too close to the castle to get a good view of Wishes. Am I wrong about that? I usually like to watch from Main Street.

Parade FP area does not have a good view for wishes. I'm a lousy searcher, or I'd find an older thread for you where Robo, who makes very useful maps, shows you where to move after watching the parade, to get a good viewing spot for fireworks. Try searching for parade FP or MSEP FP. I only remember that he recommends moving over toward tomorrowland.

I tend to believe easywdw. We are local and most of the Central Florida schools will be back in session the 5th or 6th so very few locals there on a school night. I'd stick with your plan

The only thing I will point out is that easywdw is rating WDW as a whole - not just MK. According to the OP, Touringplans 9 rating is for MK, specifically.

That could be the disconnect.

I'm a little nervous about the crowds, but with our late arrival, MK seems like the only option. It closes later than Epcot, and DHS is an EMH night, which I vowed never to do again.
That leaves MK or nothing, so better crowds than no park at all. I'll make it work!

Personally I would relax that evening. Maybe have dinner at a deluxe resort or go to downtown Disney. I trust touring plans after using them for years. I avoid any park over a 7 if at all possible. A 9 would be torture for me. It will be crowded everywhere.

I find the crowd levels don't bother me as much just moving from one FP to the next. Do your fp, get in your spot for the parade/ fireworks and hang out
