MK Dessert Party, what have you done about dinner?

I'm taking my ds to the MK dessert party in February (check-in time is 6:45p).

We'll be having a TS lunch at 12p, not sure what to do about dinner. My son would be happy to have dessert for dinner but I'm not sure if it's really substantial enough for a meal? Do most people eat before/after? :confused3

Maybe we can just get something at the POP food court after the fireworks but I'm not sure if we'll make it back by closing.

Personally I am doing a later lunch, but I would say maybe grab a hot dog or split some chicken fingers or something and then the desserts. So like a 50/50 split of food and desserts :)

No it's not substantial enough for a meal nor is it healthy to just eat dessert and not have some type of balanced meal beforehand. The last time we went, DS9 and I just shared a sandwich and a salad at Cosmic Ray's about 2 hours prior to the party. We then went to the party (we always arrive 30 minutes LATE to the party to avoid the huge buffet crowd and try for a table right above the terrace party guests - it's much quieter!) and sampled a little of everything. We weren't starving, so we ate a reasonable amount of dessert and didn't spike our blood sugar to the point that we felt awful.

You eat dessert for dinner. Don't plan on eating anything for at least two or three hours before the dessert party or you will regret it.

Regret what? Not making yourself sick? Really bad, unhealthy advice.

When mom and I did it we shared a meal about 2 hours before the party. There were cheese and fruit at the party as well as dessert so we had some of that to balance out the sugar as well. We both felt that we had a reasonable amount and didn't feel hungry or over full at any point

The last couple of times, we had either a late big lunch or a light dinner/snack a couple of hours before. I'll tell you what NOT to do, do NOT have LTT for dinner less than 2 hours before like we did for our first dessert party. We barely ate any of the desserts (still had a great view of the fireworks on Christmas Eve, though! lol)

And if you want to eat dessert for dinner, go for it! You're on vacation!

I don't particularly like the desserts at the dessert party so we are eating dinner at 4. We have reservations at Raglan Road in Disney Springs and will head over to MK after we eat. Although I will note that our reservations are at 7:45 for 9:00 fireworks.

Have done multiple dessert parties .... you have a few choices:
- Change your lunch ADR to a later time maybe around 2.
- Have an EARLY SMALL dinner, say around 4 pm where you split some quick service meals if you need the "meal".
- Keep your ADR and around 3 or 4 just get a pretzel or fruit cup.
- Carry in your bag some granola bars, dried fruit or other snacks to nibble.
- It's vacation, have dessert party for dinner! Unless you have direct health issues it's hurting no one.
- The party includes fruits, cheeses and plenty to fill one up.

EasyWDW has some nice pictures of the party food:

I didn't like any of the desserts at the dessert party, so I am personally planning on having a regular dinner before our next one, I am happy to pay for the convenience and location of the dessert party every once in a while, even if we don't like the desserts. If you think you will be eating more of the desserts then @HopperFan has pretty much laid out many options.

My family and I booked an ADR at Yak and Yeti at 11:30 and plan on grabbing a quick service meal at POP or something at MK before the dessert party.

Thanks everyone! My son will definitely not last past 12pm without lunch, otherwise he becomes mr crankypants.

I'm not worried about dessert for dinner, it's only one night after all, but I think we'll share a CS meal in the late afternoon as some have suggested.

I can't imagine not liking any of the dessert options, I hope we'll find a few things we enjoy. :upsidedow

We think the flatbreads at Pinocchio make a pretty good meal. Also might consider a hotdog from Casey's Corner.

HopperFan, thanks for the link! We are going to the Plaza party for the first time, that article had great pics and info about the party. The desserts actually look pretty good to me, we love macarons and chocolate covered strawberries, I think we'll enjoy it very much. :)

I was considering the flatbread at Pinocchio, we've never been there but I think it's a good option for something to share. We usually go to Columbia Harbour House for our CS lunch.

our current plan is to get some quick service for an early dinner about 3 hours beforehand.

I was about to post the same question! We're spending the day at HS, then hopping to MK for HEA in the evening. We have Minnie's Seasonal HV at 12:30pm, and then check in for the dessert party at 7:30pm. I'm not sure what we'll do, but skipping dinner entirely will not go over well with my kiddos. We'll have to find a heavy snack or really light dinner somehow.

Then why spend $50+ on a dessert party? Live a little once in a while. It's kind of fun.
Sampling a few items and stress free fireworks viewing is worth it.

I do not consider "living a little" or "treating myself" putting junk into my body or eating so much sugar I end up not feeling well.
