There are many additions since 1993, but also sadly, some rides and attractions that no longer are with us.
On Mainstreet USA, The Walt Disney Story used to play next to Tony's, also missed are the Penny Arcade and the Main Street Cinema. Such a wink to the turn of the century attractions that would have been found in Walt's time.
Remember when The Tiki Birds weren't under new management? When there wasn't an Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride and when the lines for Pirates of the Caribbean rivaled those of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad? How about when the Jungle Cruise took itself seriously?
The Mountain Range in Frontierland has always been a huge draw, but does anyone remember paddling their own Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoe, or visiting Tom Sawyer's Island when the complete name was Tom Sawyer's Island and Fort Sam Clemens? If you didn't get to see Country Bear Jamboree back in 1993, don't worry... it hasn't changed a bit!
Liberty Square has changed very little since 1993, with the exceptions of the retirement of the Mike Fink Keelboats and the addition of Fastpass to the Haunted Mansion.
Ah Fantasyland.... Dumbo has undergone a major overhaul since 1993, adding more elephants and more glitz and glitter and some shade for those poor parents standing in line for their little ones to experience flight with Disney's most famous pachyderm. The area where Mickey's Philharmagic is now has changed probably the most times of any area in Fantasyland, having been Magic Journey's in 1993, then Legend of the Lion King, before enjoying its most recent reincarnation. We were amoung some of the last to ride 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in 1993. And alas, our poor Mr Toad... forever to live in the 100 Acre Woods.
Mickey's Starland, the 1st land to be added to the original Magic Kingdom. It took shortening the Tomorrowland Raceway to do it. Back in 1993 you could find a live musical comedy featuring the Disney Characters, and Grandma Duck's Petting Farm... no Donald's Boat... and NO Goofy's Barnstormer.
Ah Tomorrowland, home to the attraction that launched a million "Space Mountain Morning Mini Marathons". The folks at Disney have pretty much put a stop to that, but Space Mountain remains, in all its glory. The seating configuration is changes as you no longer sit between others legs, but each get your own compartment. Also, back then, you only had to be 42 inches tall to ride. The Tomorrowland Speedway was known then as the Grand Prix Raceway, still with the VERY long wait time. StarJets, now known as Astro Orbiter was no where near as grand as it is now... however the ride is essentially the same and the line as long. The name is different, but the ride remains the same on 1993's version of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, then known as the WEDway PeopleMover. Dreamflight has undergone a major Intergalactic transformation into Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. Essentially (via way of Take Flight), the ride mechanism is the same as the original, If You Had Wings that was a free attraction sponsered by Eastern Airlines back in the early 70's. Carousel of Progress has undergone a facelift of its own, adding another scene to update it since 1993. It now only operates seasonally. American Journeys existed in the theatre now housing the only seasonally used TimeKeeper. Across from that was Mission to Mars, subsequently known as Alien Encounter, now home to that irrepressible little Alien known as Stitch!
Since it connected 2 lands, I saved the Skyway to Fantasyland/Skyway to Tomorrowland until last. What a beautiful view it was to fly high over the Magic Kingdom in those gondolas! The loading areas are still there, but alas any other trace of the structure is gone.
Next up: Transportation Around The World, circa 1993
