MK and Danskin's Woman Tri-Athlon

I just realized that this race will be going on during my stay May 14 - 23. I was wondering since it was taking place at the MK should I completely avoid that park on the 14th and 15th? Do they close any of the parks early for special events for this event? Also will this mean that the week Im staying the parks will be crowded more than normal with people making a weeklong trip out of this race? Not that any of this would deter me from going to WDW but just like to be prepared.

It will have no effect at all on the parks. Matter of fact the race should be 99.9% complete before the park opens. The race starts at 6:30 am the top finishers should be finish around 7:45-8:00. They do have cut off times for the bike and the run course, and since the run is only 2 miles I highly doubt you will see any effect of it in the park.

But on the other hand you are going in the middle of May so I think the Triathlon is the least of your worries.

My family will be there the same week it looks like we will be in good company HUH??? Oh well as they say "The more the merrier"!! (I HOPE).

We were at the MK last May 16th. The park opened at 9:00 am. We arrived around 8:30, and were able to stand and cheer the final runners as they came back through the gates. It was great! By the time the park opened, you would never have known that anything different had happened that morning.

Danskin has told all their Disney Triathletes that they want them to be done by the time the park opens and they are taling about an earlier start time to make sure everyone is done before MK opening...so it really shouldn't be a problem.

If people are there I would love some cheering.

I think they were talking about the 50th celebration, Flower and Garden festival at Epcot, and then there is also Star Wars Weekends at MGM. I was aware of all these events as that is the reason for me going this trip. This one event was the only thing I had not planned for but since it sounds like it won't cause that much of difference in the park then no worries. We have already made our plans and we are actually planning on being in a different park that day anyways except for our lunch at CRT.
