I'll be down there 5/20-24 - solo trip .... it looks like 5/23 is going to be insane at MK bc of the 24 hour event - should I just avoid MK altogether that day? Has anyone ever done this night there before? Im just trying to plan my days where I get to see everything and I'm debating just doing MK on a diff day - really not in the mood to wait 90 mins to get on a ride at midnight LOL

I have flexibility since I am going solo -

I'm trying to decide if it is worth going at 6am just to have low wait times for rides. But that means going to bed early the night before and giving up some park time then. I'm thinking Sat 5/24 morning might be better.

But what happens during the 3 hours from 6am-9am Saturday morning? Will they clear out MK at 6am and close the park until the 9am Sat open time?

Yes, they will close and clear the park and reopen at 9. MK will be crazy busy that day, from around noon to 1-2 am, but it's also a blast. If you're trying to get the most done, it might not be the best day, but it is a neat experience. Particularly in the early morning, and overnight hours. Some will come just for those hours. You can get a lot of rides done from 6-9am. I'm planning on doing the entire 24 hours solo, as the gf can't make it. Ride hard early and late, relax, and take it slower when the park is busiest.

What happens that is special? I know people can dress up but I can't find much detail about anything special - dance parties, characters, shows, parades, etc. is Disney not telling us much yet?

My DD (15) and I did the 24 hour day last year and we loved it!!!:goodvibes
Wish we could go again this year......

So we felt like we had time for everything we wanted to do.......

Here was our 24 hour experience.

We were up at 4:30am and got to the bus stop at AKV by 5:15 and NO ONE was there..Weird! Then a few others showed up.
We got too MK about 5:45 and to the gate in time for the kick off at the train station! It was so much fun!!
Then we got into the park at 6am and we pretty much had the whole park to ourselves till after 9am...So fun to be in MK at dawn!:cool1:
Photo pass photographers were out and we got some great pictures at dawn. We rode anything we wanted and had a breakfast at Gaston's tavern.

So around 11am it started getting very busy!!!!! So we purchased our 24 hour t shirts and headed back to AKV for the afternoon...We napped and swam and ate a late lunch..

That evening we headed back to MK around 9pm and that is when the madness was in full force!!!! Mainstreet USA was so packed we could not even get through the sea of people.:crazy2:

Josie and I pushed our way through the masses of people just standing in the middle of Mainstreet waiting on Wishes I guess..Cast members should have kept a path clear for people coming into the park. It was crazy!:crowded:

Once we got through into Tomorrowland things were much better. We staked out a place for Wishes and the projection show by the rose garden.
Then I believe they did it again at Midnight and we sat right in front of the castle then.

So the rest of the night was fine..It was more crowded than I expected at 2am, but the lines were not that long for anything.;)

Funny to see people sleeping on benches and laying on the ground watching the Monsters Inc movies...:goodvibes

We rested for a bit at the Tangled charging station.

So we pretty much made it till 5:45 am when Josie had become sick to her stomach from drinking Lafoue Brew at 3am and then riding the Tea cups!! Not a good idea!!:crazy2:

So we headed out as the sun was coming up! It was a wonderful experience and I will do it again. Hopefully next year!:thumbsup2

So since you are Solo I say go for it!! You will have a blast!pixiedust:

Thank you so much for your post!

This is exactly what we are planning on doing (right down to staying at AKV)! We will likely arrive before 6am and stay until 11am (or when it gets too crazy). We'll head back to the resort for a nap, swim and lunch then come back to the MK for 5 or 6pm, and hopefully make it until 3am. I would be amazed if we made it until 6am as we check out that morning and that would just be plain interesting! :rotfl:

We are planning on wearing our costumes when we return in the evening. We'll just wear shorts/t-shirts during the day...but this may change as well!:goodvibes

Too funny!
Actually we were checking out that day too...Got back to AKV by 6:30am and slept till around 10am and then got up and packed and ate breakfast and took ME back to MCO...We were like Zombies, but it was so worth it!!!
:rolleyes1

So your plan to go back around 6 or 7pm is smart.... Get in there and stay away from Mainstreet USA.

around 9pm was when Mainstreet was gridlock!! Just crazy!!!:grouphug:

After Midnight crowds start to thin out.:thumbsup2

Have fun!!!

No FPP after midnight on that day. The rides should have minimal wait after 2 am or so. I'm staying the whole day, and scheduled NY FPP during the busiest party of the day. That will give me at least a few big rides when the crowds are at their worst. Otherwise, I'll use that busy time to do minor things I don't do often, people watch, and eat!
