Mixology/drinks tasting?

Some of the adults in our party are considering doing some kind of drinks class/tasting. Firstly, is this something you should book in advance? Secondly, is there likely to be only one Mixology class (I hope that's the correct name) during a four night Bahamian on the Wonder? Also, in relation to my last question, I am part of a Facebook group for our cruise date who appear to be arranging their own Mixology event. Is that likely to be a private one that we shouldn't really intrude upon, or might it be our only chance? I really hope the above makes sense! TIA!

1: You can't book in advance if it's not a private event.
2: I don't know. Probably if you have two sea days. Maybe if you only have one.
3: You can't really intrude upon a private group, but you can join one ahead of time if it's available to you. It won't be the only mixology class.

You can search the web to see if you can find Navigators from previous cruises with the same itinerary as it may give you an idea of when the classes may be and whether there would be more than one during your cruise.

Usually you can only book the alcohol tastings like mixology once you are on board unless as phinz said, you have a private group arranged.

We have booked when on board once, but for our last few sailings the Facebook group have booked a private tasting (sometimes more than one if there are enough numbers) which people usually sign up for beforehand as Disney will take your stateroom number and place a charge on that room. Could you not join the one your Facebook group has organised or is it too late?

The easiest way is to just join in on your FB group's mixology class, if there are openings and if the time fits your schedule (doesn't conflict with an excursion or a Palo reservation). if you want a 2nd or different one, you can check onboard, but at least you know that you will have one to look forward.

Our 4 night Bahamian on the Wonder last April (no sea days) had one (public) mixology class, per our Navigators.

All great and helpful information, thanks. I don't believe the Wonder has done a 4 night Bahamian in a long while so am eagerly anticipating looking at a more accurate Navigator when it does this route soon- I think this will be February.

My wife and I did a Mixology class on the Dream in July 2015 and on the Magic in March 2016, both sailings were the 4 night Bahamian cruise. We had to book on Embarkation day and did not have a problem getting a spot for the two of us. There was only one Mixology class per sailing. Definitely recommend it and it was a fun time.

Don't forget the other tasting classes either. Mixology is great, but if you like certain kinds of wine or alcohol, these can be wonderful experiences. I did whiskey and cognac tastings. My BIL and sister did the martini one. Informative, and a good variety of brands.

Over the years we've done wine, whiskey, martini, and rum. They've all been fun and tasty!

We preferred the chocolate and wine over mixology but it was more expensive, $20 vs $35.

I would just ask the person who is organizing the mixology class for your FB group if there is still space. The person who booked ours said they were allowed to book ~35 people

We did ours through our FB group and it was awesome! The bartender let us make the drinks ourselves as models. So everyone got all 4 or 5 small drinks plus a full sized one that we got to mix ourselves...and there were a few no-shows, so the bartender let us drink those, too. He got some big tips at the end because we were all wasted!

We did a chocolate and liquor tasting set up in our cruise group. Sure it was still a bunch of 'strangers' but we knew some of the people in advance. You can still book a mixology class once you get on board, but these are first come classes and may or may not fill up. So be sure to check the first day if it is something you would like to do.

We were just on the 7-day Wonder, and it wasn't the hard-to-get ticket I had the impression it was! We did sign up for mixology (2 of us), beer tasting (one of us), and bourbon tasting (1 of us) the day we embarked. No one else was even signing up for stuff when I got there, none of them was even vaguely close to full, and I didn't sign us up until probably 3pm or so. We enjoyed mixology so much (Rodolfo is SO good) that we decided we wanted to do the tequila/margarita tasting. After embarkation day, the only place to sign up for the tastings is wherever the tastings will be held - but at that point, we couldn't quite fit in a stop to Cadillac Lounge, so one of the Promenade bartenders told us just to show up b/c there were usually spaces for walk-ins. He was right, and at least 3 of us were able to walk-in. No one was turned away. I would have loved to do the mojitos tasting, but they were both at 9pm and we had late dining. oh well, next time! So I wouldn't stress too much about it. I think these tastings are one of those things you know all about if you're on the boards here or you have cruised DCL before, but not otherwise well-known enough to make it a mad rush to book.

As others have said, you cannot book in advance of embarkation any of the drink classes unless the private one you are aware of within your cruise group. If there is one with your cruise group that has space, it is the easiest way to get into a mixology session.

I've arrange a few with cruise meets and for us the limit was 30 (that Disney subsequently reduced to 25 max) and just after our last cruise in November, Disney started bumping the private groups to port days which may impact if wanting to participate in a private group - ask the time/day anticipated to run for if you have planned (or expect) to be doing an excursion the day/time of, you may need to wait to book the open classes when boarding.

Customer Service (post embarkation day) can also see if room is available and book for you any of the public classes with space.

Our last outing I wanted to do the Mojito class (loved doing a previous sailing) but it was between the 2 private classes I'd coordinated and I was hesitant to do back-to-back classes, so we waited until heading to the first private class to see if space was still available at Customer Service (meant to be if it was) and to the DW regret, it was so we booked.
