Mixing Cash with Dining Plan?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this question. My wife and I have decided that even though we want to do the basic dining plan which allows for 1 sit down and 1 counter service per day, we would also like to do a couple of signature restaurants too. Now understand that we will have magic bands on and even though we've been to Disney 20+ times before have never yet used them. So my question is this. If a credit card is put on the magic band along with the dining plan will it be possible to not use credits while dining and use the credit card portion instead? I figure that if I want to do 2 signature restaurants that I can pay on credit card for 4 regular restaurants and use 4 dining credits for the two signatures. I guess if it's not possible, I can elect to not put a CC on the magic band and just bring the actual card to the restaurant, but I normally try to carry as little as possible. Hopefully I explained that properly. Thanks for any responses in advance.

Yes you can either pay by cash or credit card on the magic band. Just tell your server your method of payment...they will scan your band, and voila! All done! Its really that easy. :teeth:

Great... Thanks.

Great... Thanks.

Let me make one suggestion for you. Instead of doing all or nothing at each meal, you can mix up the payment at EACH meal. Ask that the most expensive entree and dessert (to be shared) be paid with your DDP and pay OOP for the other entree. This should be the cheaper way to get a few signatures in and the better value with the DDP. You can always add in an app or side to share as well. Some signatures have some yummy sides that are definitely big enough to share.

Just wanted to ensure that you know your credit card information is NOT on your magic band. Nor do you actually charge to your magic band. The credit card information is in your MDE account, and charges go to your resort account. The MB is simply the "key" that accesses your account.

At any given meal, just tell your server whether you will use the dining plan or room charging or both. Your MB will be used for both. You might use the DDP for the bulk of your dinner, but would have to pay OOP for an appetizer or a bottle of wine that you had also ordered. And then there's the tip. You can charge this portion of the bill to your room account, using your MB ( or you could use cash, a gift card, or a credit card).

I think you also just answered a question I was going to post: Can two people be on the dining plan and one not? DD's friend has asked if she can come with us but she'd be paying OOP for her meals because I rented points and don't want to have to go back again and ask the owner to add another person (she just got us on the plan this morning lol). So, we would ask that the most expensive entrees be credited to the DDP and then pay for the cheapest OOP right?

Yes, the server will split the check between those on the plan and those not on the plan. But, how will this friend be getting to the resort? Everyone on the reservation has to have the same dining plan. And, if she's not on the reservation, she can't take DME.
