Good Morning Nutters

From a very Smokey, Warm, Windy Southern California

Things didn't change much over night, I think more fires have popped up but we are no where near any danger here.

I think my SIL/BIL are going to be fine the fire is close about a mile away, but they are in a very accessible area and the fire fighters are doing the best they can to save structures.

Keep think all those good thoughts for the people being effected by this disaster.

I really hope they'll be okay. From what I'm hearing, those fires are moving very quickly and one mile isn't far at all. Are they at least prepared to leave if they have to?

Hey Nutters, It's going to be a long night here in Southern California

If you have seen the National news tonight you know that Southern California is on Fire.

They are currently reporting 12 Major fires burning in Southern California covering thousands of acres being fanned by the Santa Ana Winds conditions.

They stretch from Malibu to the North down to San Diego in the South.

They are reporting that some lives have been lost and numerous buildings have been destroyed and damaged.

Numerous communities are under Mandatory Evacuation notice

The air is thick with the smell of smoke and ashes every where.

We live in Anaheim, so we are safe,

My oldest is down in Del Mar (San Diego area) and she said that it is miserable there,

My BIL AND SIL live in the Canyon Country area and may have to evacuate, they can see the flames from their home.

That is just terrible Keith. That happened around here this past summer. It's just terrible, a constant fog of smoke, hard to breath too.
I hope they can do something about it soon and your family stays safe.
I can't imagine it being so close to my home.
I'll do the rain dance for you.

Sorry PJ, I could hardly keep my eyes open. It was a long drive home last night, I hate driving when I'm that tired.
It was so funny to see Dolphin stadium packed with Patriot's fans yesterday. I'd say the ratio was 75/25 Pat/Dolphin fans. lol

Whever we get close to having a hurricane I start packing stuff in Rubbermaids and stuff to put in the car. My Disney pins are usually one of the first items packed. Kevin just walks by and shakes his head.

I'm not surprised at all and if the Dolphins keep playing like they are , it's going to be about this ratio for most of their home games. The 2007 NFL Dolphins remind me of the 2004 MLB Royals -- bad, bad, bad.

I wouldn't have thought things would get worse but I guess they are.

My SIL is in the process of evacuating,

The fire is on the hill behind their complex less than 1/2 a mile away

The winds here are so sever that the Fixed Wind aircraft have been grounded and there aren't enough Water Dropping Helicopters to support all of the fires.

Traffic is at a stand still in a lot of the fire areas with everyone trying to evacuate.

As bad as it seems to be here, it is even worser in San Diego, A Fire Captain from there just reported that they have more structures on fire then they have personnel.

They have also announced that the fire in our area was Arson.

I think the worse part is sitting at here at work and not being able to help family and friends. There is nothing that I could do since I would never be able to get into he affected area, but I think it is just human nature to want to try.

I just hope that no one else loses their lives or sustains injuries.

Totally understandable, that feeling of helplessness. I have a situation that isn't nearly the same, but the feeling...my aunt and uncle lost their restaurant yesterday, and because they owe the IRS so much money, they may lose their home and everything else. My mother and I are sitting here going, "What can we do? We certainly have no money to give them...," we're in CT and they're in IL, so we can't exactly take them in...

It's that rock/hard place feeling, isn't it?
