I saw another post about this on another thread but let me explain what happened to us. We booked our first trip to Orlando in MAy fortravel in Sept. Then fares went down so I rebooked and got the year credit...good from MAY2003-May2004 so then there was a special at POP $55 a night so we went down on a whim and used the credit plus cash. I would say it was about 30% credit and 70% cash ticket purchase. OF course the price went down and they would only give me credit back in fare credit form BUT the unfortunate thing was that it would still have the may2004 use by date. I did not understand why they could not just give us the $$ back since it was mostly a cash sale. We technically used our credit IMO but that is not how SWA works so I called and got th voucher which extended the travel by date to 12/2004

I am happy. It still isn't completely fair IMO since technically it should be good till Feb 2005 but I am happy since they seem to be the only airline that will allow price adjustments on such cheap fares.

I posted this just to let people know what happens with mixed funds booking. Next time I will book all three seats individually that way if I need a credit I could get mostly cash back and maybe a little voucher instead of all voucher.

No matter how you pay, if you request a credit for a lower fare, you will get a voucher back. There's been reports of people getting cash back, but they're few and far between.

yeah What I meant to say is that then I would get two vouchers one off the original with the closer expiration and the other off the cash with the year expiration. I am sorry I am confusing myself with this. Since southwest will give back credit on the orginal credit not the cash part if using mixed funds. Does that make sense?

Sorry-- I've just gotta say this.....

I am a new SW fan and we are flying from Philly to MCO next week. Then my DD are flying out to LAX at the end of the month. I got a credit of $240 from SW when our ticket prices went down a few months ago. That is why we are able to travel to California so soon after our Disney vacation.

I was absolutely thrilled that they were giving me this credit. These were non-refundable tickets!!!

I couldn't believe my good luck! I don't think you are going to find any other airlines who do this on a regular basis--without a change fee! (Think US Air $100 per ticket)

So I guess what I am trying to say is this--consider yourselves lucky for the money you have saved and the fact that you may get another trip partially paid for.

Oh definitely!!! It is just a weird quirk that some may not be aware of when booking with credit. But I completely appreciate that southwest does this. It makes fare hunting not so tedious BUT what the hell is going on with Nov dates!!! Still nothing yet! UGH! 11:24 am EST

I know what you mean. It is weird the way they don't release schedules. Guess they want all of us waiting with "baited breath!"

Personally I am hoping to get bumped on the way back from one of our trips so that we get more free tickets. Their seating is strange too. Luckily my kids are old enough that I don't have to worry about all of us sitting together. As long as we are on the plane I'm happy!

Good luck and enjoy!

Last time I used my credit, they had a whole paragraph explaining how that works........new funds mixed with old credits revert to the original expiration date.....guess one has to read the directions:smooth:

What directions I was given an online code to punch into the the section on the website? Are there directions somewhere I don't know about?
