Just wondering how many of you use a misting bottle or hand held fan when you visit the parks. I invested in $1 hand-held fans two years ago. I like it because it was powerful enough...a little annoying to carry everywhere....but I found that the little relief it did give me made me want MORE relief from the heat so I was more miserable than happy... :confused3 ...that's just weird old me I guess!

I know they sell rather inexpensive water-misters at Wal-Mart and have actually seen a decline in the use of them at WDW when we've gone.

How many of you use some type of hand-held heat releif in WDW?? :teeth:

We normally go in December when heat is not a problem, but for our last summer trip, we bought a big over-the-shoulder mister that works very well. We've already got it packed for our next trip!

We bought the mister/fan while at WDW...actually we bought 2 of them. It was kind of expensive but, we were desperate:teeth: . We refilled our bottle with ice water and it felt so good in the hot sun.

we bought one 3 years ago in WDW. We just leave it with our luggage, along with our water bottle lanyards and insulated water bottle covers and bring them back every year. We go in Aug, so we do use it. we will be bringing it again this year.

We swear by ours. I just picked up one at Walmart yesterday for $4.96 for a spare to the one I got last fall at Bed Bath and Beyond (for $2!)

Last trip we broke down and bought one for DD and it was the best $17 we ever spent.

I went last August for our first summer trip. I read up on all the tips. I bought a misty mate and a mist fan and those cooling scarfs.

I used the fan once, I used the misty mate a couple of days and I never used the scarfs.

We got tired of carrying that stuff. What we did do (got this idea from others while down there) was grab a couple of face cloths from our room and wet them with ice water or fountain water throughout the day. My 5 year old LOVED this best. She'd put it over her face, on her head, around her neck. It worked like a charm.

There's just too much to carry that although we liked the misty mate, we all got tired of carrying it. I may try again though. I, however, didn't like the cheap misty fan I got. Couldn't get it to work properly after being in my suitcase for a couple of days.

There's no way we go without our personal fans and misting fans. For my younger DD, who is very heat sensitive, I also got the cooling bandana. The combo of bandana, fans, and misting really seemed to help her. I also made sure to make her drink lots and we took very frequent breaks in AC buildings. We would get to parks early and leave for mid day swim break. If you manage your time and take lots of breaks and water, summer is almost okay.

I carry the little hand held fan. It tucks neatly into my bag along with all the other stuff I tote around the park, so I don't really notice it. I do know what you mean about wanting more after you've turned on the fan :)

I've never had a mister fan before. I can't find them in the stores in Canada and they're too expensive at Disney :(

Some of you mentioned the cooling bandana or scarves...could you explain what they are, how they work, and the success you've had with them? I think I might know what they are.

I did try the cooling bandanas and must say I hated them. I did not like the wet feeling and they did not stay cool for very long. Neither of our boys liked to wear them either.

I did splurge on a misting fan in August for DS6 who overheats quickly. He liked the fan and it did help a little. When it was empty I would fill it with water and then get a cup of ice (free-just ask a vendor) and put it in the bottle.
