Mistake booking Swan to save points?

All of the rooms at the Swan are remodeled and have 'heavenly beds'. The air conditioning is a motion sensor. We took a small table top fan(but we went in July) and had no problems. The room cools off very quickly when you walk in. The fan helped distribute the air, but I don't like to be hot at all and I was worried too. You can also set the temp. You can also call down and ask them to do something to turn it off.(the sensor)

Thanks for the info guys!! We are thinking of staying at the Swan for two nights before our stay at the YC (when the value season begins) since I can save with the teacher's discount.

DH is hesitant to switch resorts, but with the late checkout option, and the teacher discount, plus the newly remodeled rooms, it sounds like a good deal. Our family are AC nuts!! It has to be cool, and we have to be in control of it!!

Just double checking something else: the Swan had queen beds correct, while the Dolphin had double? Also, there are two sinks in the Swan as opposed to one in the Dolphin? Thanks again for our help!!

Correct on the beds....but also know that the S/D charge a resort fee of $10/day. For a while many were able to have it waived. Not so any more. Just FYI, so you aren't shocked when you get your bill. Even with the resort fee, the specials at the S/D can't be beat.

In response to those grades I just don't get really get it.

The "C" for room quality, I'm sure that was a grade prior to the remodel but even so I can't at all agree with that. We've stayed at the Swan 5x and have yet (and can't wait) to stay in a renovated room. The rooms were always clean and comfortable.

The "D" for quiet, well first, I think that makes quite a difference where your room is located. If you're near an elevator, sure it'll be noisey, but by the same token, the noise from the rooms at the WDW resorts are worse.

I swear the walls are paper thin and if you're near an elevator, forget it, you can hear everything. This was a big problem at the POLY and WL for us. If you ask for a room at the end of the hall the more likely it'll be quiet. But, in any hotel I've ever stayed at unless the rooms around you are vacant there's going to be noise.

Best tips for noise reduction:
Ask for a room at the end of the hall.
Ask for a room without a connecting door.

So in all fairness the S/D's rooms are probably now superior to most of those at the WDW resorts as far as quality goes and the noise, well I've already covered that. I can only imagine who they surveyed for that survey

I am begining to wonder too. After the posts regarding my question, there is no question that I made the right choice. I really can't wait to try these beds. I will report back when I return.

Noise? We stayed in a corner room at Christmas and the elevator was right around the corner, but never heard it. This summer we stayed in a room with a connecting door and I was worried, as I like quiet, but we never heard a thing. We never even heard water or showers. I was surprised at how quiet it was.
Those grades aren't even close. Transportation was great. The Swan is the first stop for bus service to/from AK and MK. And the location is boat or a short walk to Epcot and MGM. Can't beat the transportation.
Room quality is also excellent, especially after the renovations.
You will not be disappointed.

You won't regret staying at the Swan for a millisecond. Its wonderful! We stayed there last April and we will be going back in December. Its a great way to conserve some points and with the teacher's rate and starwood points for upgrades who can beat it. And we are still in the area we want to be in. Wait till you try those heavenly beds,they're awesome. Have a wonderful time!

Just double checking!! You can call down to have the sensor turned off if it's not cool enough for you? (Remember we're AC nuts!) This is one of the things that makes us return to the YC all the time...complete control of the AC!

Also, I read that a request for late checkout gives you until 1pm. But I also read that there is a later checkout of 4pm. Is there a charge for that, and if so, how much? Thanks!!!

Dreamflight stayed at the Dolphin, but I recall her saying that she called down and asked for the sensor to be turned off. You might want to post to her and ask about it, to be sure. I didn't know that when I went.
As for 4 pm check out, I think it depends on your rate. I think there is an AP rate that includes a 4pm check out. It was also included in my Recipe rate that I had this past July. When I called down to tell them I would be checking out late, I was told by the CM that there would be an extra charge, until I told him to look at my reservation and he saw that it was included. Be sure to check on that.

We've stayed at the Swan twice, and loved it both times. The heavenly bed is heavenly. The staff is always warm and welcoming, and the Swan and Dolphin are both first class in my opinion. I think you'll have a great time there.

The 4:00 pm check out is a perk of the AP discount rate. As you said standard late check out would be 1:00 pm. I am almost positive they said the charge would have been $30.00 additional for the 1:00 pm check out. Please keep in mind that either way, late check outs are always based on availability.

We are doing exactly the same thing as OP, and I'm really looking forward to it. We didn't mind using points for one Saturday, but we are arriving the Friday after Thanksgiving and refused to spend 60 points for a 1BR that night, so we are staying at the Swan. My only regret is that we won't be using both of the two nights I originally reserved.
