Ok, I'm going back to Disney World the 1st Week in March and I'm very apprehensive about riding Mission:Space. I don't necessarily like things that spin. I'm o.k. on the roller coasters like Space Mountain and I had no problem with Star Tours last year. I also went to Universal last year and rode back to the future and was o.k. on that. I also rode that stupid Men in Black ride that spun you around and that also didn't make me sick. Do any of you know anyone personally who has gotten sick on this ride? I don't really know what to believe on the internet wheather it is rumors about it being really hard for the staff to constantly clean up vomit or whatever. I just know that a lot of people say that this ride is one you shouldn't miss, I was really disappointed last year that it wasn't open yet when I visited. But then on the other hand I wouldn't want to ruin an entire day at the parks with being sick. Any advice?
Thanks, Ash :earsgirl:

Ash,
We road MS in October. My DH LOVED it. I, on the other hand, was "messed up" until after lunch. You don't feel like you are spinning, but my stomach knew! I did take Dramamine that morning, so that it would curb the affect the ride would have on me. I can't do Star Tours or Body Wars, so I was REALLY afraid to ride this. Am I going to ride it again? no. Am I glad that I DID ride it? yes. The one thing that I think was my saving grace, was the fresh, cool air that they blow right into your face. Had it not been for that, I think i would have lost it. Our boys are asking to ride it. They will be 7 and 9 when we return. I am tempted to tell them no, just so that I don't have "sick feeling" kids on my hands the rest of the day. Personally, if you don't get sick on the spinning rides, or are afraid of tight enclosures, I think you might do okay. Try it once and if you like it you can do it again! If not, I'll sit with you while the others ride and have a Mickey Bar!

We had to change simulators after going through the pre-show because they had to clean up "space-dust" in the one we were supposed to ride. I am not prone to motion sickness and had no problem with this ride at all. Believe it or not, where I did feel a tad quesey was in the queue line (we were in the regular line, not fastpass), right when we got next to the giant spinning rendition of the space station. I was fine, but I had to look away from the display.

On the ride itself, follow the directions---eyes forward to the display screen, do not look to the side, do not resist the g-force sensations and you'll probably be fine. My mom is 79 is she was fine on it.

If you are prone to motion sickness, do NOT ride the ride.

I rode with no problem. I was just nervous - but my DS5 and I loved it! If you can ride Star Tours, you can do this. No, they aren't the same one is a simulator and one spins, but if you just watch the screen, you will be fine. I didn't notice the spinning at all.

I just returned from WDW and loved Mission:Space. I was very nervous after reading about it, but I did not have any problems (other than feeling a little wobbly for a few minutes after the ride). I have had problems with Body Wars in the past so I wasn't so sure about Mission:Space. The anxiety before the ride was worse than the ride itself. I even went back for a second ride before leaving for the plane.

Go. Ride it. You'll be glad you did.

I have to second the "go; ride it; you'll be glad you did" crowd. We just returned and rode M:S in spite of having the stomach flu the week prior to our trip. I was very nervous about riding and feeling nauseated again, and I can't ride Body Wars or Star Tours....M:S was great. It is a motion simulator ride, but the screen you watch is small and the rocket doesn't roll around. You feel G forces (not bad at all) and you kinda move around but not like Star Tours at all. Follow the directions of keeping you head still and looking forward and you'll be fine. Enjoy it!

I didn't have any problems with Mission:Space and apparently my 4 year old son didn't either. (He rode it twice). My husband, usually not prone to motion sickness, did feel very ill after he rode it. He chalked it up to continuosly glancing to his side during the ride. To make sure our son was handling it ok) So my advice is, keep your face forward!

I was SO nervous about riding this. I was worried about getting sick. I can ride ST and all the roller coasters, but was really nervous about this. After reading up here, I decided to go ahead and ride it. I was ready for the small space and knew to keep my eyes on the screen in front of me. I also knew that it was approximately 45 seconds long and felt that I could do it!

It was really a neat ride. I enjoyed it and DS8 LOVED it. Grandma58 didn't like it much the first time, but then REALLY liked it the second time. I didn't go on it a second time because we only went on it once the first day and went back to ride it again the next to the last day we were there. I had a headache and was feeling queasy, so I felt it best that I didn't ride it. But I would have if I would have been feeling well.

I guess I'm in a minority so far here....I felt pretty sick during and after the ride, BUT I agree with all the others that you should try it at least once. My DH had gone on (we did baby swap) and he didn't think I should try it. He did o.k. but since I don't handle simulators well, he didn't think I'd like it. I really felt that since it was new and exciting I should do it at least once. I don't know if I actually felt it spinning, I just felt overwhelmed by all of the movements and just kept telling myself not to close my eyes or look to the side and just hang in until it was over. Its pretty funny if you see our video, my husband was filming our kids running around on the grass outside of mission space and then he turns the camera to me and I look absolutely horrible! Its funny now but I was dizzy for the next couple of days!! Just make sure you go on at the end of the day and do everything else you want to do in case you get sick. That's what we did. I made sure I went on Test Track first since I love that and didn't want to miss it. Good luck--hope you do well!

What you might consider is sitting outside the exit and watch folks as they leave--how they look, what they are saying. I did that when Mrs. U decided to get on Mission Space and it confirmed my decision NOT to ride. Comments ranged to 'WOW, What a ride" to "Never again". Several folks seemed quite wobbly, and tho there was absolutely no wait at the entrance, not a soul (including Mrs. U) went on for a second trip--

Hi. I just returned home last night. By the time I got into the Mission Space ride, I had heart palpatations due to the constant warnings in the queue! I think that the constant warning is overkill. The ride was great. I did however know that I had been spinning. My eyes kept moving after the spinning ended. I had to concentrate really hard to keep them straight ahead. I wish that I had time to ride it again so that I could completely enjoy the ride without all of the anticipation. Can't wait to go back and experience it with my son.

Even though I get motion sick I loved this ride. Like others I was a nervous wreck in line, the anticipation was killer! I can't ride spinning rides or motion simulators at all but love roller coasters and was determined to at least try this ride. It was amazing! Unlike anything I had ever rode before! The only time I had a problem on the ride was during the landing, which was more like a traditional motion simulator. When I got off I think my equlibrium wasn't quite right because I felt a little unsteady, not sick just a little disoriented. I sat down for about 15 minutes and was fine.

My kids, 8 and 11, on the other hand loved this ride and had no problems at all.

I really want to do this, but I get motion sickness. It's only 45 seconds? Maybe if I keep telling myself that it will be okay. I think 99 % of my problem is psychological. I work myself up into a dither beforehand and then can't enjoy the ride.

I felt ill on Star Tours and Body Wars. I had to sit down for a half-hour after riding Primeval Whirl!!

If I decide to risk it I will definitely report back!

DH & I really enjoyed MS! Give it a try! Actually DH & I have not fared well on Star Tous or Body Wars - they always make us feel "funny" for several hours after. But MS did not give either of us that reaction. We both felt a little "off center" when we got off but by the time we were out of the building we were both totally fine and pumped about the ride!

I do not like spiinning rides (Teacups), don't have a problem with simulators (ST, BW), and MS was fine. Did not feel ANY spinning at all. I listened to their directions, keep my head back against rest and watched the screen. I thought it was pretty cool. And I also am a bit claustrophobic (never did AE from all I read), but again, did not find MS to be bad at all. Good luck, enjoy.

I felt lucky I survived it !! At least I was extremely pleased with the fact that we didn´t have to return from Mars.
I had to concentrate completely on not getting sick, just looking straight ahead all the time. Afterwards when my kids were riding it for like their third time I was sitting watching people coming out and I noticed several middle-aged women (like myself) who really felt bad. But my kids just loved it and I was proud of myself that I did it. I do get motionsick very easy so I just can´t understand why I didn´t take the warnings seriously.
Live to learn,
Annika

Loved this ride!
WDW's best yet!

Rode it about 8 times in a row during the Passholder weekend in August.

Next day, rode it another 7.

First time, the legs were a little wobbly.
that's all.

The last time I rode it though, I turned to look at the other people in the cabin, and I thought I was going to lose it right there!

So....keep your eyes locked on the screen in front of you and keep your head back against the headrest and you'll be fine!

Can't wait to ride it again!

Only,,,,I know this time, we'll have to WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!!!!!:(
Esp during Spring Break!

This year, I'm bound & determined to ride Big Thunder Mountain. I always chicken out and DH is forced to ride it alone. Needless to say M:S is one he'll be manning solo!

Just call me a turkey now, because I REFUSE to do it! I know my body and I just won't put myself through it!

:sunny: We just returned from WDW and I did enjoy riding Mission Space.

I was leary of riding this cuz I am not a "thrill" rider and tend to like the "safe easy going rides". It was a cool ride and different. I will say that I did have a headache for awhile after riding ... more like a pressure headache, but nothing advil can not cure. I don't get headaches much at all and would take the headache for another ride ::yes::

It's not scary though. :sunny:

I will add to that my girls 12, 10 and 7 LOVED this ride and went on it many times through out our stay. They did not get the headache that both my dh and I got. Kids .. tough as nails.::yes::
